ive been told i should go for a honda CG 125 because of how easy they are to look after + fuel economy. Im also told i can pick them up for between £200 and £400 but to be honest i cant even find any for sale :( so if anyone knows where i should look, please feel free to direct me there...

also i need to take my CBT, any ideas whats involved in this ???

Can't tell you about the Honda's my first.. second and *cough* third bikes were all Aprilia RS125's

Can help you out on the CBT bit though, you learn the basics of riding a bike/ped. Usually in a carpark / offroad somewhere for a good 2/3 hours. Once you've got the hang of it, the instructor takes you out on the road for another few hours. You'll do simple manoevuers like Hill starts and U turns.

Riding a bike is great fun, good luck :)

Hi there mate. I bought an 02 CG125 in January this year. It was mint and had 20k on the clock and I paid £690 with some gear thrown in. That was a good deal as it was winter. They are desirable and you won't get one that doesn't need work for less than £500 I would have said.

They are brilliant bikes for the reasons you mentioned. Reliable as a swiss clock if looked after and 100MPG all day long.

I used mine to pass the bike test and after having it for 6 weeks sold it on for £840 with a flat battery :D

So, a great cheap bike for learning. Pretty dull and a realistic top speed of 55-60, but you can't have everything.

CBT is simple, its not a test exactly more a set of checks and basic instructions on how not to become the next set of roadkill.

I found the hill start a bit hard but the rest is quite simple highway code stuff. I think my pass is expired now because I never completed the full license, opps

you have 2 years to upgrade to the full license from a CBT or then you have to take the CBT again to keep riding a bike below 33bhp with L plates on it.

CG 125s are fantastic bikes as a 1st bike. 60 - 70 mpg easily if not more. they will run forever and you should be able to get at least what you paid for it back in 12 months time when you sell it to get your next bike. 4 stroke honda bikes for the win :D

Oh they are not fast, or sporty or good looking in any way shape of form.

If you're getting a motorbike as your first vehicle, then don't forget to get your organ donnor card too...
Sry, that sounds a bit abrupt, but I've known a few people over the years who had bikes as their first road experience. The emphasis is on 'known' as their relative inexperience on the roads (not that this nessescarily applies to you) put them at a distinct disadvantage when it came to a tustle with a car. ie. they ended up as roadkill underneath it.
Personally, if you want a bike I'd get one after you've got used to the roads (assuming that you have to) in a car- it's a lot more forgiving if you crash. :o

well, thanks for that...

i cant afford a licence for a car, let alone the car itself so thats not an option.
