Any fish experts on this forum?

My dad has a pond in the back garden containing a good number of Koi Carp. One of the fish has gone well...... "rounded" shall we say.

Common sense would probably dictate that it "is" pregnant. However having never seen this before I thought I better do some research, especially since it seems to have been puffed up for the last 3-4 months.

The fish swims about fine, eats fine and gets on with the rest of the fish fine. Ill see if I can get the video from my phone onto youtube and you can take a look.

In the meantime, anyone care to confirm?

Sincerest apologies if I am being extremely stupid or nieve. Off to lunch now, back in a few :)

hmm possibly, or it could be constipation or swim bladder disease. hard to tell really from your description.

i'm a tropical fish man myself, so perhaps its worth posting on a koi forum? :)

On a fishy note.

I won a fish from the fair, so shoved him in with the others, now all my others acre pretty much imobile due to fin rot.

Can this be cured?

Some fish like guppies will carry the eggs internally until they are ready to hatch (I Think) I remember my dads guppies getting fat when they had eggs etc.

Gutted its not pregnant. Funny thing is every relative thats come over, Ive been showing them the fish saying its pregers :D

my neighbour has koi and he has mentioned previously about fish becoming egg bound. I understandand you can strip the eggs out if done early enough, though I seem to remember him saying it was better to bump them off
Bear in mind it is totally the wrong time of year for fish to be laying eggs I think

As said, Fish dont get pregnant. They start spawning in early february I think? If its egg bound thats a bummer. It can be a killer >.<
