My Focus ST170's MPG :(

on the way to blackpool the other week doin 60/70 i got approx 100miles to just over quater of a tank, 80/90 on the way back used half a tank..thats tought me to stick closer to 70 on motorway journeys in future.
 
Maybe its just down to how you drive. Do you keep a good average speed or keep braking and accelerating, do you use 5th gear when going over ~30mph etc..?
 
when doing 30 i tend to use 4th, sometimes 5th if its a flatish road as otherwise feels like the engine is labouring. similar story at 40, use 5th/6th, 45+ always in 6th unless overtaking or on a bit of a blast which is quite rare.
 
Ouch I really shouldn't complain about my motor as I'm getting around 32mpg and that includes me getting quite friendly with the fun pedal :o

Please don't post saying that ST220's fuel economy isn't actually that bad, it was the main reason that I didn't buy one, well that and the minor detail that I couldn't actually afford a nice one :p
 
My 1.8 Mondeo does 350-450 miles on a tank, at moment averaging around 400-420 miles, and i put anything from 53-57L in every 10 days or so.

Still 96.9 at Morrisons near here, which means my local Tesco's will be 95.9, the Texaco on the way to work is on a main trunk roundabout and is always 5p/l dearer than Tesco's, problem is I needed fuel :(
