I am everywhere...
Basically 3 nights ago, i was coming from my GF place when i got to Edware road in london, this celica (new shape) pull next to me and was revving it engine hard.....(tempting me into a race mode).
I ignored it bcuz i always believe im bigger than this boy racer stuff on the road. Anyway he pulled away from the light and then slowed down delibrately in front of me by this time we reached the next set of light with him on my left.

Suddenly, my mood changed from a nice ElRazor into the "Stig mode" . I change from auto to the manual mode and as soon as the light changed i pulled up so quick this dude was in my rear view.

So we started dueling along park lane at dangerous speed. Overall i noticed he couldnt catch up with me so i slowed down and he then whizz past me but i aint no longer bothered, i proved my point. Thank god LAPDs (sorry, i meant police) didnt see the whole thing. :D

My question is giventhe top of the range of both vehicles i.e the GPvR (for the fto) and the celica (whatever it is) which one is better in terms of speed (0-60), Handling and top speed??

Well as per the avensis, ive had it now for two days or so as a courtesy car, even though it is a diesel, im kinda loving the car, it is huge, well equipped and not bad. My question on this one is, what are people's opinion of it as i drove my friend in it and he's planning on getting one. Is it worth it a daily use vehicle etc. Thanks for reading... ;)

The celica is really lacking in the low range, i've heard the 190/T-Sport model are a lot better but i've also not heard of one thats done much more than 100,000 on the clock

Whenever the new Toyota Avensis is mentioned, I simply cant avoid thinking of that utterly pants advert. For this reason I dont think I could ever own one.

depends which celica it is... if it was the gt4 you would have been eating dust, but sounds like it must have been one of the lesser models, which would be totally out classed on most things by the fto :D

You dont get the new shape in a GT4 version or do you?

You were probably up against the 140bhp version, you wouldn't of dropped the 190 easily. So its not really that much of an acheivement :p
I've been up against a couple the 190's and there is nothing much in it (manual GPX) Watch out if you find a Clio 182, its really easy to let them win :|

Is it the 2.2 diesel?

Very reliable car's I believe i drive my boss's estate now and then, auto very smooth and drives well. Been in a fair few around the test track too. The new diesel engine is the version to have. Face lift version is out pretty soon though, with minor front end improvements.

aye the 1.8VVTI is really only "warm" whereas the 190 VVTL-i isnt as quick as the TSport VVTL-i (altered the gearing to bring the change into the powerband), but once they come on cam, really pulls well, but the pull is pretty high up thorough he range (read 6 -> 8.2k rpm) not making it an ideal lights racer...

Nah, 2litre diesel for sure with T3 or something like that written on the big backside.

Off topic, is it normal for diesel to take ages to warm up?, it seem the one im driving takes about half hour or so make the temp guage rise a teeny weeny

You mentioned that i wouldnt have dropped the 190 easily.....will that be at the initial stages or the top speed end?
Mind you mine is a GR

Celica is 8.7 or 7.2 for the latest version. Your FTO is 8.8 (Auto) or 7.1 (Manual).

Err, it most certainly is not.

The Tiptronic FTO does 0-60 in 7.3 seconds, the manual is 6.3 seconds.

Shouldn't be that long, my Corolla takes a while though, about 10mins until its at max temperature. Dervs do take a bit longer as they are thermally more effiecient so less heat is wasted into the coolant

The new 2.2 Engines are great, the high power one isn't available over here yet though (185bhp) so we have to make do with the 155hp 'green' version
