I bought an Xbox 360 controller for PC and I've plugged it in and installed the stuff on the CD but when I just tried it on a game it doesn't work. The green light on the controller comes on and I hear the little "ding ding" noise Windows makes when you attach a device but no luck in using it during the game :(

It is only accepting my mouse and keyboard.

Are you using the front usb ports on your case,i had the same problem when i bought a new pad, plug it in to one the ones at the back first, then it installs for a minute, take out then try yhr front ones should work, thats what happened to my pad if that helps:)

Which game is this? Not all games work with gamepads out of the box. Have you checked in Control Panel to see if the controller is recognised in Windows?

Thanks for the quick responses.

I have tried both front and back USB ports and no luck.

The game is Assassins Creed: Brotherhood. And yes, I can see the controller in Device Manager. The driver is up to date as well.

I have just looked on the back of the box and it says the Xbox 360 for Windows controller is recommended so it should work.

Obvious question is obvious, but have you selected the controller from within the game menu? Not all games will select it automatically as default controller is often set to keyboard/mouse.

Does the middle light constantly flash? Uninstall the software that comes with it and uninstall the driver. Reboot and then just plug in the controller and let it install the default driver and don't install anything from the disc. I was having numerous problems that were solved by not using the included software and driver disc.

Just saw what game it is; have you tried going into control options and changing it to "Xbox 360 controller for PC"?

Well I looked on the game menu for a place to initiate my controller but was unable to find this option anywhere :S

No the light does not flash. It is solid green like how it is when plugged into an Xbox. Thanks though for the advice, I will try that when I get home. Also where is the 'control options'? On the game or on my comp?

Have you made sure the controller is turned on before launching the game?
I sometimes find some games pick up the keyboard + mouse if you don't do this, or if you press a keyboard key first it sometimes assumes that you will be using it and ignores the controller.

Normally when you go to options bit to change your key bindings, there should be an option to scroll through the different devices (Keyboard, Mouse, controller)

It does with with the game, that's for sure (as I've briefly played it on pc using the controller).

There is 100 percent a config option there somewhere, but as said make sure the controller is loaded up first, and then the game. Maybe download later drivers?

Haha thanks guys. I didn't look too hard because I found the option to switch from M&K to controller.

Thanks for your help though.
