It's very simple...dump her...and spend more than £100 on a new GPU

Thats why I dont celebrate christmas or birthdays anymore.
What is point in buying each other gifts as opposed to each person buying something they want themselves? The second option brings more happiness for each person.
If someone complains about not getting a present and they are an adult, call em a spoilt brat and to think of all the people who dont get anything on christmas day.

It is possible to actually enjoy the experience of giving someone a gift they like and then watch them enjoy using or wearing it (whatever the gift may be), some may even give without expecting anything return though that may suprise some.
Cost doesn't even have to come into it, the thought and effort behind a gift can often mean more to someone than monetary value, though sadly, I would guess many see that as an excuse to pop down to the local garage and buy some tat.
And I genuinely lolled at being under thumb if you spend some money on your partner or a close friend. You are not under the thumb if you give someone you love a gift, it is a fantastic excuse for being an utterly selfish and self centered moron though... "Nah didn't get the woman a gift, wanted to show her I wasn't under the thumb".
