obviously this is just in case it fails the MOT spectacularly, but do you want me to find you some local garages to powerstation that do MOT's? Just if its looking a bit last minute tis all....

.......or if you just want it booked in there if you were to be asked.......ahem......

I like your way of thinking ;)

MOT should be fine, I have a very understanding tester! If it's looking bad I'll let you know :)

The sooner I get an MOT the better as I need to take it to get a custom exhaust made! If I source another gearbox the timing wont be as tight!

ok mate, well, ive just done a draft of the running order (its in the first post of the thread) and your near the end (so people can see, as its been followed so closely) so if you need to do anything SERIOUSLY last minute im sure you can blag some tools from powerstation.

Give me a shout via e-mail if I can help in any way

Tonights update and a sigh of relief!

I've managed to find a second spare gearbox to get it running for now to get it MOT'd and the exhaust done! Picking it up tomorrow with a flywheel and clutch. So if the diff doesnt arrive from the USA I can still use the car. Phew....

Took a drawing of the adpater for the oil pressure switches to the machine shop this morning. Picked it up this afternoon.

Adapter fitted after work

Picked up a new radiator and mounted the slimline fan using the "quick mounts" supplied. Basically they work as a cable tie. They pass through the rad and some rubber washers each side, there's a "nut" at the other end that tightens the tie.

Pipework that was measured up yesterday welded up and in place. Feed for air filter also in place with a hole drilled through the heat shield. All plumbing done now apart from intercooler outlet to inlet manifold. Some pipework should arrive tomorrow for me to do this.

Last day in work tomorrow for a month so expect some proper progress from now on!!

Tonights update:

Last inlet pipe done

DSCF0726.jpg

Not much room at all here, I'm thinking about taking a bit off the alternator case to gain some space. I'll see how much the engine moves and take it from there.

Throttle cable bracket mounted

Dump valve and boost solenoid take offs welded to the pipe we fabricated and everything connected (thanks Oly).

Picked up the second gearbox today. Also booked it into the custom exhaust place for May the 4th

Whats the plan with the custom exhaust? Do you need one as your using the 1.8 20vt in the Mk2 and the Leon one doesn't fit?

Correct!!

Downpipe is 2.5" o.d. and I don't want to reduce this down if possible, I can't find anything off the shelf that's going to be quiet enough for me!

That oil pressure adaptor looks a big bulky and heavy to be fitted to an ally part? Maybe route that on a short bit of hose so the engine vibration doesnt make it crack off.

Have you looked at the Ibiza Cupra one?

No I haven't, a custom made one is going to be much easier for me and be a perfect fit! There's not that much in it price wise either.

It has to be that size to clear the turbo oil feed pipe. I don't see it being a problem as it's securely attached and going to moving with the engine anyway? There's about 12mm of thread going into the alloy part so any load (if any) is going to be well distributed.

Todays update:

As I now have a spare gearbox it was time to fit the flywheel and clutch....

How it looked before I started at about 4pm

DSCF0730.jpg

Engine and box removed, clutch and flywheel installed (:D) and put back together.

DSCF0731.jpg

Engine bay now empty so finished off what needed to be done before the engine goes back in.

Cross member and towing eye bracket ground down to clear the intercooler and power steering pump

DSCF0732.jpg

Engine bay as it is now, one brake pipe line to the rear from the bias valve to be done. Steering connected, downpipe in place, fuel lines ready to be connected.

A really BIG thanks to Elfyn for coming over to help, it's so much easier with two!

Hopefully engine to go back in tomorrow

Looking good L1J. Once the engine is back in will it be ready to fire up?

Ta, everything is here now for it to be started, it's just a matter of putting it all together.

Managed to get the engine in earlier

DSCF0737.jpg

"uprated" this engine mount last night!

DSCF0736.jpg

Bigger turbo inlet pipe compared to the standard VW one

DSCF0735-1.jpg

Much more clearance for the power steering pump now

DSCF0740.jpg

Gear selection cable now in place and seem to be working

DSCF0739.jpg

Need to connect up the fuel lines, vac lines, rad, intercooler and all the ECU wiring before I can attempt to start it.

Need to order a clutch hydraulic line as the one I've got here isn't long enough.

PS I'm not taking any reponsibility for any F5 buttons today!!

Can't get the staff these days, would have had that finished and running within a week + complementary hovis shots :p ;)

Get your arse over here then and help ;) Bring some bread with you :D

Run into some problems, the VR6 radiator thats fits "No problems, like a glove" behind the rallye intercooler according to ClubGTi doesnt! It's 50mm too long! Should have checked it before I installed the slimline fan. On the hunt now for the correct radiator...... ARGH!

Pics to follow later.
