My google navigation has disappeared

They say bad things come in 3's. I think it's true. My car alternator broke today, my washer dryer broke, and my phone's sat nav has completely disappeared. :rolleyes:

I've no idea where it went. It seems to have vanished since I last rebooted the phone this morning. Or it might have disappeared before that, I don't know. I can get voice navigation using the default google maps app, but it looks different from the built in google navigation. Any idea how I can get it back? There's literally no icon for it anymore, neither in the apps menu or on my desktop dock bar. And no reference to it in application manager. My IM+ app had reset itself the other day too, had to reenter the password. Something weird going on with this SGS2.
 
The thing is even on my new phone I have Navigation icon in the apps drawer AND Maps.

They both load Maps though but the Navigation icon shortcuts directly into the destination input screen.

So what sis going on here then!
 
Exactly mrk, that's what I used to have, the blue arrow in the apps menu. And I made a shortcut for it to my scrolling dock bar. But they've gone.

Well yeah, it used to be like that in maps with ICS. Since JB, the maps app looks different. Here's screenshots of what I have now from google maps.

This got me thinking, there must be something different here between our setups with other people who also have no navigation icon or Local. I checked mine out just now and defrosted Touchwiz Home and noticed that only Maps was in teh app drawer, no Navigation/Local.

I use Nova Launcher so somehow Nova has retained the icons to Maps which triggers the different built in parts (Navigation).

Interesting. I use apex launcher, but I recently uninstalled Launcher Pro which I haven't used for years. I'm sure I've used navigation since uninstalling that but no idea if I've affected anything. But there must be a way to get navigation back, surely.
 
Looking at the shortcut to Navigation properties, Nova just loads up properties for Maps so it looks like because I had the Maps/Navigation icons customised in Nova (folder etc) that it has retained that even after Maps updates regardless of the phone as on the NOte 3 I restored Nova using the built in backup feature.
 
Navigation never left, they just changed how you got to it (tap a place in Maps, tap the car).

Your version of Maps must be super old if you uninstalled updates.

Now that I've uninstalled Maps updates, the arrow pointer has returned in Maps allowing me to go to Navigation, and the Navigation UI is now the same from Maps or from the Navigation app in the apps drawer. White text on black background for one thing, which I prefer. Before uninstalling the updates, the UI of Navigation was different and imo not as good.
