never used an antistatic band, never had a problem

plug the psu in at the wall but keep it switched off at the socket , rest your leg or something against bare metal like a radiator, congrats you are now grounded.

As for being grounded, I had the same dilemma back when I was building my PC for the first time.
All I did was touch the copper pipe on the radiator every so often and never had a problem since.
