My i7 4790k owes me nothing / Ryzen resale value

I have converted over to team red now after being years of blue.

Looking back, I found messages that I purchased my i7 4790k, Z97 motherboard and 16GB RAM 2nd hand for £280. That was in 2014

The same bundle sold recently for £360 + postage. So not bad for 6 years use! I did think it was older and paid a bit more but that was an i5 2500k bundle in 2012 (also a fantastic chip I sold on for no loss)

Do people think the Ryzen parts will hold their value as well? The 5000 series chips seem to be increasing in price already due to demand but over 5+ years I would like to think their resale value is reasonable too

The £360 back from the Intel parts has reduced the cost of upgrading to Zen 3 to £640

They will hold a value, but they probably will drop down a fair bit in price from where they are now as we are paying the new tech launch day premium atm.

AMD's roadmap is quite aggressive, they seam hell bent on releasing / refreshing every year.
And of coarse a socket change is on the cards, which means a new chipset and DDR5 isn't that far away no doubt.

So in 5 years from now who can say.

Is there any roadmap for DDR5 / PCIe5? I hear people talking about DDR5 and PCIe5 like its coming next year but highly doubt it will

Certain selling places have their ups and downs. I tried selling another item I paid over £200 for an got peanuts for it

Some things i've had great deals on, some not as good. Problems with sales and buying. As I say, has its ups and downs
