My i7 4790k owes me nothing / Ryzen resale value

I have converted over to team red now after being years of blue.

Looking back, I found messages that I purchased my i7 4790k, Z97 motherboard and 16GB RAM 2nd hand for £280. That was in 2014

The same bundle sold recently for £360 + postage. So not bad for 6 years use! I did think it was older and paid a bit more but that was an i5 2500k bundle in 2012 (also a fantastic chip I sold on for no loss)

Do people think the Ryzen parts will hold their value as well? The 5000 series chips seem to be increasing in price already due to demand but over 5+ years I would like to think their resale value is reasonable too

The £360 back from the Intel parts has reduced the cost of upgrading to Zen 3 to £640

Whoever paid £360 for a 4790k Z97 and 16gb was mad as they could have picked up a 3100 B450/A520 and 16gb ram brand new for just over £200 or even a B550 3600 and 16gb for slightly less than £360.

If you want to see the prices of Zen 3 chips in 3 years then look to zen 1 prices.

They will hold a value, but they probably will drop down a fair bit in price from where they are now as we are paying the new tech launch day premium atm.

AMD's roadmap is quite aggressive, they seam hell bent on releasing / refreshing every year.
And of coarse a socket change is on the cards, which means a new chipset and DDR5 isn't that far away no doubt.

So in 5 years from now who can say.

Intel have a history of never reducing their CPU prices, even when they’re EOL and they’re only running down stock. This is why the second hand market always remains expensive. AMD usually do discount their older stock to clear inventory.

Motherboards and decent DDR3 are becoming difficult to find.
It's still a crazy price for 6 year old hardware when it's totally outclassed by new parts.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £307.43 (includes shipping: £10.50)

Well yeah, You can buy a complete 6 core 4650G system with a B550 board for not much more. Pre built no less.

Is there any roadmap for DDR5 / PCIe5? I hear people talking about DDR5 and PCIe5 like its coming next year but highly doubt it will

Yeah the Intel second hand market boggle's the mind.
I've been wanting to pick up a cheap 8700k or 8086k for a while now.
But it's never going to happen by the looks of it lol.

I agree, if you can sell it for a good price do it.
You'll be suprised how much people will pay for socket 1155 z boards, and specificslly Itx Z as these boards always hold their value.
Hmm maybe I should sell my 3770k and 4770k itx systems ! ;)

B550 board and 1600AF/2600 or used 3600. Maybe even a A520 board.

It's not that, I just have old boards and other parts kicking around.
If I put something half decent together and flip it great... but I'm not fussed more than that.

I recently moved jobs so I'm now living the dream... I build and repair PC's and laptops for a living.
And it's a nightmare lol, I'm surrounded by old and new parts and customer trade in's.

One of my mates wanted half a dozen VR systems setting up and I owed him a favour. I agreed to build the systems and set everything up for him. He now owes me five favours.

Op did well selling those parts for that amount of money, I would be over the moon with that.
I have a I7 3770k, motherboard and ram for sale as I've upgraded to ryzen too. Will then get these sold.
I think I will sell them separately for hopefully a bigger return.
