My i7 is over heating, how do I fix it?

it should work on auto though mine does,im not on that pc atm so cant say,it will tell you in the mb manual, its in one of the bios pages just look for igpu

you can unplugg the graphic card and use onboard graphics see if its ok using that,or you can plug the 680 in the lower pci-e slot see if that makes any difference, tbh if the card was working before and not now it could actually be a faulty card

I don't believe this question has been asked yet, but what PSU are you using?

A dying PSU can cause all sorts of weird and wonderful intermittent issues.

Also, we've still yet to see any temperature readings from the CPU?? We can at least then rule that out of the equation.

I cannot find the igpu in the manual or in bios, what does the abreviation mean?

I am using a seasonic 860w platinum power supply. I doubt its dying, but if it is, that is a bit scary. how can I tell if its dying or not?

the program OCCT is not detecting my 680 at all and it did earlier before it broke/stopped been detected.

I'll test my cpus temprature tomrrow. which program would you recomend I use?

To monitor the temperature of your CPU, I'd recommend RealTemp as it will tell you the exact time the max temp occured.

There's also Core Temp, which if you have a G15 keyboard by any chance, or perhaps other keyboards with an LCD, you can view the temperatures on the keyboard LCD using Core Temp.

http://downloads.techinferno.com/RealTemp/RealTemp_TI.zip

use that for temps^^,its in there in one of the pages igpu-integrated graphic processing unit or onboard graphics, seasonic psu's should be fine,im using xfx psu also made by seasonic

I am in windows safe mode right now and real temp doesn't seem to want to work, it says open as administrator when I click it, I do that and it still says the same thing. I cannot get into reguler windows mode because of the gpu problem/what ever the problem is.

So I may not be able to use it. I think there is a program called cpu z which I might be able to use. I am heading to bed now though guys.
I will post here again tomrrow with my findings/questions. Thanks for your time and help everyone, espeacialy Wazza300.

cpu-z just show cpu speeds

another thing to try is setting the pci/peg slot from auto to gen2 speed, ive seen a few issues running in gen3 mode again i dont know what page its on without looking i can look 2morro for you

I found it and set it from auto to gen 2, it did not help, it also stoped my mouse working.

I think if its not working with auto, there is obviously a problem with my GPU. I think I am going to RMA it after we rule out other things, that is if the GPU is faulty.

Okay bed time for real now, good night.

Hi again guys, What should be the check list of things I should be looking at to see what is working and what is not on my pc?

You can test without the 680 and use motherboard graphics, see if that's working fine, then try the 680 in the second lower pci-e slot and see if its any different,if not then id rma the card,it could have been faulty all along

I found everything, but 3 of the things I need to change are locked to auto

pwm phase control = stuck on auto

system memory multiplier is stuck on auto and is at 16.00

cpu vcore is stuck on auto at 1.55v

How do I unlock all of these so they can be changed? I noticed i could unlock the auto setting on other things.

No offense dude but with everything you have said you should put the CPU at stock (BIOS defaults) until you have researched a bit better how to overclock and safe voltages etc... 1.55V vcore is dangerous on water never mind the stock heatsink.

Well if he's running 4.5ghz at 1.155V then that's probably why it's so unstable, I would recommend loading the BIOS defaults and running the processor at stock speeds to see if it works as it's designed to do before venturing into overclocking.

He's at stock,he just changed dram v and pwm phase control and CPU voltage response, but hope his CPU v isn't 1.5v I missed that, his gpu was working to begin with but now as soon as windows loads the drivers pc shuts off so I'm guessing faulty gpu?

Not being funny, I think my GPU is dead mate.

I no longer get this screen but I am curious what will happen once i redownload the latest drivers. If it will revert to that or not.

It looks like it is running in 16 colour mode to me, that usually happens when there is no driver.
