Hi,

This is my first post, so please go easy on me.. :)

I'm looking to build a i7 920 rig and what to overclock it to about 4ghz.

Can you guys please help me, I want to know if the parts I have chosen will go well together or if it needs a litte tweaking.

I think that I will probably get another 5870 later down the line for C fire.

XFX ATI Radeon HD 5870 £339.99

Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz £205.99
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 Intel X58 (Socket 1366) £189.99

Prolimatech Megahalems Performance CPU Cooler £49.99
Akasa AK-FN057 Apache Super Silent 120mm Fan £11.99
Arctic Cooling MX-3 Thermal Compound £6.99

Corsair XMS3 6GB DDR3 PC3-12800C9 (1600MHz) Tri-Ch £109.99

Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 650W ATX2.2 Modular £105.98

Antec 900 Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black £79.99

Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM £66.99

LG W2452TX 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor £179.99

LG GH22NS50 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £18.99

Thanks!

You might want to think about fitting 2 fans to the Megahalems for better performance, if you do end up going for two fans, make sure you order another set of fan clips, it is also worth buying one of these PWM fan splitter cables so you can have the 2 fans on the heatsink running of the CPU fan header on the UD5 mobo..

Lastly, it might be worth going for a larger PSU if you plan on getting another 5870 later on, I am not 100% sure if a 650w would be enough for crossfire, maybe someone else can say whether or not it would cope..

Looks good.Do DavyBoy said about the cooler. The Be Quiet! PSU will be more than enough for 2xHD5870s.As you can see from this chart here 2xHD5870s take a load power of 561W.But I would say to get a 700W PSU if you plan to overclock.

You could get this for the same price.http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-013-CS&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1084

Thanks for the quick feedback guys!

OK, so a slightly altered spec gives me this:

XFX ATI Radeon HD 5870 £339.99

Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz £205.99
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 Intel X58 (Socket 1366) £189.99

Prolimatech Megahalems Performance CPU Cooler £49.99
2 X Akasa AK-FN057 Apache Super Silent 120mm Fan £11.99
Arctic Cooling MX-3 Thermal Compound £6.99
Akasa AK-CB002 PWM Fan Splitter Cable £3.44
Prolimatech Fan Wire Clip - 120mm x 25mm £3.44

Corsair XMS3 6GB DDR3 PC3-12800C9 (1600MHz) Tri-Ch £109.99

Corsair TX 850W ATX SLI £106.98

Antec 900 Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black £79.99

Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM £66.99

LG W2452TX 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor £179.99

LG GH22NS50 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £18.99

Do you guys think the monitor will be good enought for this setup??

Also, I have no idea on a keyboard or mouse?
I don't really want to spend a lot of money on either, I just want an average one of each. Any suggestions?

Thanks again!

You've obviously done your research, that's a very well-balanced spec. Either the Corsair or Be Quiet! PSUs will be great, you'll be fine with 5870 crossfire on 750W. There is someone on youtube running 5970 crossfire on 850W without any problems, so... :)

I'm pretty sure the Megahalems now comes with enough clips for 2 fans, I had to buy extra but I think things have moved on since then.

The only thing is I'd be tempted to go with the Antec 902 instead of the 900 - you'll get a black interior for starters. Other than that I'd say you're good to go!

Oh, sorry - I meant to add you might be better off going with the Sapphire 5870, I think the supply is much better than that from XFX. :)

I'm able to get the XFX card from overseas as I travel to the states quite a bit with work (so I can post it to my hotel).

Does anyone know if the warrenty is worldwide?
So if I buy it there an have a problem with it, can I just send it to the UK manufacturer?

Hi Guys,

Well I purchased my parts and started building today.
I won't be getting my gpu until late next week, but I couldn't wait to get the rest started / finished.

I have a couple of questions as this is my first build in quite some time, prob 10 years...

I purchased a fan splitter after some advise, but I have no idea how to connect it up to my 2 aksas fans and motherboard??

Is there a way I can control the speed of the Antec 900 fans (other than the internal swiches with High / Med and Low)?

How the hell do I connect up the CD drive and HDD with SATA? It keeps talking about Raid, but I just want to setup my CD and HDD?

Thanks
