My keyboard has stopped working

I picked up some nasty malware called Omiga, I googled how to get rid of it which involved installing an adware program I didn't previously have, ran it and now my keyboard doesn't work neither does my Xbox 360 controller. When I boot up the keyboard lights come on but later in the start-up process they go off and the keyboard doesn't work. It's a PS2 keyboard btw. Thank for any advice or help, it's doing my head in because most of my games are now unplayable.

Sounds like it needs to all be reinstalled to put it back to working order.

If the keyboard is connected to usb3.0 ports try re-installing that driver.

By reinstalled do you mean a complete clean install of the pc?

Keyboard is a ps2 and does not connect via usb mate

Yes I do mean a complete install, its what I would do as it doesnt take long to install windows and the games I play I find.

It works in the BIOS?

If I plug the Xbox 360 controller into one of the two front USB ports it works which leads me to assume a usb keyboard would work in the same port.

If I were in your situation I'd completely reinstall windows as well. I've had a couple of bad experiences with malware in the past, and whilst it's a pain to back up your files and redownload/ reinstall programs, you should be back up and fully running within 2 or 3 days. For me, that's better than the hassle of potentially having to gripe with the malware for ages afterwards.

Hi folks. Thanks for all the replies, I decided to take your advice and do a complete clean install. Before I did I checked my PC and realised to my horror that I had no anti-virus program and no spyware or adware. So the first thing I did after the clean install was install AVG. What spyware and adware would you folks recommend (preferably free!) and which do you think is the best browser? Has IE improved?

Chrome/Firefox.

If you're running Win 8+ you'll already have Windows Defender which is pretty solid, I don't think you need anything on top of that.. but Malwarebytes is always good.

can recommend stopzilla aswell, found and got rid of a virus or malware that avg and malwarebytes missed on my machine
