My latest system tweaks:)

A full setup I have no interest in, a ATCS840 will easily accommodate a full system.

Always had an eye on those Corsair/Antec things, but keep getting put of by various stuff such as noisy/buzzing/rattling pumps, poor performance and a few other little annoyances that I see some people say.

well, i think the sensible option is to give your vengance RAM a haircut and buy a silver arrow if you are looking for a better cooler (assuming it fits in your case)

This is a nice thread for me since my build will be very similar to this, however I have to wait on the PSU as it is currently out of stock.

Hey Stulid,

Just a few curious questions:

  1. When you setup your Z68 motherboard, do you have a lead from one of the onboard graphics sockets connected to your TFT as well as your discrete graphics card?
  2. Do you have to switch your TFT from say HDMI 1 to HDMI 2 or DVI as examples depending on which connectors your using?

So say your going to watch a film, all the power juice just comes from the Intel Onboard graphics?

Cheers,

why do you want to connect it via both to 1 monitor?

Because the onboard Intel graphics should use a lot less power when watching films, even using youtube. My 6950 fan increases quite abit when doing either of these.

Infact I will connect my Energy Monitor, to see how much power draw the 6950 uses when watching youtube / films. ;)

Will report back . . . .

i will plug my tv into the onboard hdmi and the monitor into the gfx dvi and see if both will work when i get home if you like. see if its clever enough to run both.

Cool, I'm not sure how it works but would like to use everything desktop wise for the Intel onboard and obviously games with discrete.

Just done some tests using AMD 1090T @ Stock / 6950 @ Stock, I guess some wattage will be due to CPU as well as the 6950.

(Fan 24%) 175W = Windows Idle
(Fan 25%) 192W = Google Chrome (Web Browsing)
(Fan 30%) 205/220W = Vlc Player / Windows Media Player (Watching DVD)
(Fan 29%) 230W = Youtube (music or video clip)

Will run some tests when I get my Intel Z68 rig sorted.

yes it works, sort of. it switches to the obv fine, but when switching back to gfx card CCC fails to initialise properly. not had time to see whats going on and how much of a difference it makes to the gfx power usage, but in theory yes it is possible.

Thought I would suck the GPU's hot air out with my hot box.

What is this ? Can you buy one or is this just a ghetto mod using what appears to look like a shroud pinched from a Dell ?
