My life as an ex computer pirate

Sounds like you got off pretty lightly compared to your mate. The guy who used to own the ice cream van used to sell music cds and dreamcast/PS games out of it aswell.

I remember the good old days with the pen trick :eek: ...he was raided and ended up with nothing iirc. I wont buy pirate dvds from anybody,if i want to see a film i will download it but most of the stuff i have is years old and i couldnt go see it in the cinema and i aint paying to rent it.

I have a pirate copy of hostel 2 on my bed which my mum said my gran gave her up...the quality is so poor i aint gonna sit and watch it.

It certainly isnt as bad as drug dealing. Just tonight i got told "the guy doesnt do quarters" so my mate has to get a half....the same guy a few weeks ago said it was "£70 an ounce now" up from £60. Scum to be honest. Another one of my mates can get drugs from 3 of his neighbours within about 50 yards!

They'll also be able to tell the type of traffic by ports and so on. Torrents will stick out like a sore thumb.

Torrents per say arent illegal anymore then http or any other form of traffic.

It is criminal...its a crime of the highest order.

The damn criminals cant even print a decent cover for the damn film! :mad: Personally i go for a 4.7gb dvd rip for full quality rather than a damn 700mb avi. :mad:
 
The music and film industry are constantly shooting themselves in the foot, the more they try and force the old fashioned rules on people the more people turn to 'piracy'.

I would be interested to see a poll about that them most annoying thing about DVD's is, no.1 will almost certainly be the unskippable FACT promotion at the beginning. We bought the DVD, why the **** would we buy a pirate version? :confused: Same thing with cinemas, you now have to sit through a 5 minute presentation making you feel like a criminal, comparing copying a DVD to stealing a car. Innocent until proven guilty? Pah, everyone is now a possible criminal. :mad:

What I can't work out is why people buy the coped DVD's in the first place, the ones I have seen are usually cinema copies, with dodgey sound and picture. I refuse to watch them as it does spoil the film and would never comtemplate buying one for the simple fact I would rather spend the same and see it at a cinema.

I do believe a lot of IP theft would be cut out if distributors released the film on DVD a lot faster than they do now. You see a film at the cinema and really want to see it again, so a month, 2 months or even 3 months down the line you end up getting a pirate version because ther official version isn't available to buy. Same with US releases, the internet has made global communication instant so why are companies still insisting on releasing films and games in such a fashion. If the film companies kept with the times international roll out could be just a click of a button away and almost instant.
 
Most people who download stuff WONT buy the stuff if they couldn't download it for free... this is a fact


Im sure piracy hasn't effected the sales of 24 DVD box sets...cause its a damn good show. All the main cast are insanely rich, and everybody is a winner- so what's wrong in that?



The biggest outrage is the pressure that RIAA or whoever has placed on guitar tab sites... TABS LOL...

guys just keep pirating, at the end of the day you're getting your moneys worth and it all cancels out in the end (everybody is a winner).


Also, if you ever get a chance to claim benefits, but are thinking about not doing it because you arent a scrounger.... just claim it... cause at some point in your life you're likely to get ripped off big time- so get your money's worth while you can!

for 5gb i'd suggest downloading blu-rays instead.

Eh? It's pretty much true. People download stuff because they don't have the money to buy it. If they weren't downloading the things, they still wouldn't be buying them because they just don't have the cash in the first place.

For example, most people here would just get it off one of their mates who bought it, if they couldn't download it. I personally would just suffer without whatever it was, I cba wasting money on CDs (considering I don't use a CD player) or DVDs (considering I only watch films once). Most people who buy CDs are the ones that just HAVE to own the CDs... I had some housemates that collected loads of CDs and never downloaded anything without buying it later.


This forum is probably packed with people who just leech crap for the sake of it, with no intent of even watching/using the stuff :P

No, people download stuff because they don't want to buy them.

Given the option of having something for free or paying for the same product, most people will choose free.

Most people are so used to getting stuff for free, that the value of whatever product it is decreases dramatically, and when met with a £14 price for a CD... they'd definately not buy it.


The only thing i'd pay for, is say £30/month subscription which allowed me to download Films/TV/MP3s UNLIMITED and which had no crap protections on the files... so i'd be allowed to put it on whatever device i wanted

Like me and others have already said, if the option to download stuff for free was removed, then more people would start paying for DVDs/CDs.

Those messages are always annoying, and yet they can be easily removed/made skip-able if you were to copy the DVD. So really, the only people they annoy are the people who buy the DVD, which is pretty much shooting yourself in the foot as you say :).

Ok, to see things from your perspective I'd agree, that if the option to download stuff was COMPLETELY removed, then some people would buy the stuff (that's obvious)... also, the prices would likely come down due to that higher demand.

Thing is, we are at a nice balance at the moment. People who don't want to buy stuff, download stuff... people who want to buy stuff, buy stuff... artists/actors are insanely rich... and everybody is a winner.... let's just keep stuff the way it is.

Wasnt sure how one would go about playing these...

Personally i have downloaded a few 700mb avis for when im bored...such as Dont be a Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood which i wouldnt go buy but i want to see it again.

I download lost....and watch a lot of shows on iptv and other places. I did go out and buy the LOTR trilogy the full extended one because i like it so much and wanted to own it.

Downloading is so damn easy that it doesnt feel like a crime. If i had reason to believe i would be caught then i wouldnt do it but from what i have saw around my area then i think the police are stuck working with the drug problem.

Actually...when i was in highschool a mate of mines dad worked in CID and would regularly buy copied playstation games and films.
