my local computer/repair shop did a stupid thing

Get some case fan air filters, It might prevent this type of problem for you

Taking a High end GFX card is easy but doing it properly will take a couple of hours, You just can't leaver off backplates stuck with thermal pads etc..although people do (and if you need to ask why, you definitely should not be doing the job) Best avoid !

The dust got in there through the fan, Get an air line and carefully blow it out in the reverse direction, keep the temps sensible and you won't burn off the cheap thermal paste also :)

I have fan filters on all the intake fans

yeah I didn't mind how long it took tbh. it just that I knew it was wrong about the pads while he was doing it but he kept saying it'll be fine. I don't think he fully understands that I know what i'm talking about when it comes to hardware/software, I've been using computers for 25 years and started building systems 17 years ago. it's only my body that doesn't work (hands/legs/speech~.)

I co run a small shop like this, and thankfully I know what im doing. There are 3 other shops in town who undercut and would not know how to deal with high end hardware.
<snip>
I lose business due to not installing dodgy windows, and other software but I can sleep at night and get return custom due to not messing up!.... 7 years now and not one problem that caused an angry customer *touches wood*

Totally understand where you're coming from... I worked for 13 years in a little 'local' computer sales/repair place, the amount of 'good' hardware you'd get to see was very minimum, I could count on 1 hand how many proper gaming systems I saw in doing onsite support (home & business) for all that time!

So many other computer businesses/shops came and went during that time; we would lose customers for the 6 months they were open (because we refused to try and compete at the bottom of the market), then you'd get the same people back (when the other place had closed) and try to re-teach them about the junk they'd been sold and fix all the problems...

I feel your pain my friend, I can only imagine how frustrated I would be without full control on a job like this.

Gareth just to let you know in case you haven't seen it a guy has posted some nice information that may help you in the dead space 2 thread.

All local computer shops in my opinion are run by complete and utter noobs that don't have a clue that they are doing apart from the standard crap Dell etc.
