ok, as some might recall..... i posted here a few weeks ago about my 15 day old 250gig Maxtor drive giving up in a BIG way.... much like the way the old IBM drives used to die

well with the RMA and refund, i decided to buy a 150gig raptor instead, as being a server HDD id expect better reliability

the first thing that hit me was the fact it felt almost totaly the same speed as a normal 7200rpm drive... well after a week, ive found it has a "smart failure" Seek Error rate is at -1 instead of +60. The drive seems to get stuck seeking when in windows, and you can randomly hear it seeking when im idle as well.

Running GRC's Spinright on the drive showed no errors at all, and fixed the smart data back to +60.... but as soon as i got in windows again it was back to -1.... So what is going on here?!?! is the drive dying or have i messed up somewhere?

download the data lifeguard diagnostics from western digital.
test the drive, and if it finds a problem. you can rma the drive.
thats your best bet, the data life guard tools are very good give it a go

this reads the smart data as failure too

disable the nqc that will fix your problems i had the same it's just somioc to do with the nforce 4 chipset and ncq

disabled on all drives

its only SINCE i disabled it, that the problem started, however re-enabling it doesnt change the problem :(

don't waste time checking for further errors, it's a problem with the drive, RMA it, WD are pretty good with RMA's, they'll send u a new drive prior to receiving yours should you provide them with your credit card details
