My M3 DCT Test Drive Comments....

Blast from the past!

If I was buying today now I am several years older, the M3 would have being the choice as these days I want a more rounded car as I feel to get that all rounded feel in a Porsche, it would need to be a 991 911 as the 997 and still is a pretty raw feeling car which 5yr ago I'd have gone for, but today I want more refinement and missile like performance hence now I'd go M3 or 911 Turbo. :D

Can I ask Gibbo what you thought of the TTRS? I've been offered one that's coming up for sale, which isn't something I've really been thinking about

I think I did do a similar write up for one several years back when I had a go in a couple.

It is a car Audi got so close to making utterly fabulous but as with all Audi's they made certain aspects to dull and too easy.

The good points are they are seriously quick road car, put power down in all weathers without issue and are incredibly fast off the line, they make a good noise and are very well put together. If you want a pretty car, nice interior, good sound track and ability to trounce most other cars on the road and even hassle certain super cars, they are epic. But on the flip side they take zero skill to drive quick, anyone could drive one quick, they are dull and on the limits which are high they understeer like pigs.

As an all round car, Golf R is better, but the TT RS and RS5 have that glorious 5 pot.

So depends what you want from a car, TT RS is hugely capable and quick but simply dull to drive. I found my EVO more engaging to drive which says it all. ;)

Only reason I ask about the TTRS is it was in your list of cars then I thought it was odd that the Mustang(s) were not in the list, anyway I've been looking at 997 (gen 2's) recently as I've always fancied one, cant justify a 991 yet :( so my limit is around mid 30's for a gen2 but the couple ive driven (both Carrera 2's) I found a little disappointing so I'm thinking along the lines of this thread the M3 might be the car for me, I wouldn't probably spend as much on a m3 as I would on a 911 however so there seems to plenty of nice ones for 25-30k, id most likely get a low miler from bmw so at least it has a pucka warranty
