Ive had my macbook now for about 2 months now, and its all good!

The only problem Im getting is safari is starting to be mega unresponsive, I have this program installed that mods safari that saves all my tabs - had it for a while and before all was good. But when I turn on my macbook, and all the tabs load when I turn safari on it take ages for it all to load.

It really shouldnt - on my samsung laptop, it would never take this long, so I think somethings up.

Im new to OSX, and dont know what tricks of the trade there are to speed it up, so I turn to you guys! I have the £949 aluminum macbook if that makes a difference.

Thanks guys! :D

my macbook gets quite unresponsive and i've never really pinpointed the problem...

i think cs3 doesn't really play nice (for example if i close illustrator it takes an age and i end up force quitting) - unfortunately my mac can never really do a restart or shutdown anymore without some help with force quitting and the like :(

a lot of the time when i want to shut down its when i have to go out somewhere and take my macbook, in which case i can't generally wait the 5 odd minutes it takes to shut down and i end up just holding the power button... i've just kinda got used to it :(

You have a plugin installed that's clearly slowing down Safari, and you continue to use it?

Good game ;)

Press Ctrl + Cmd + Option + Eject to do an instant shutdown.

Only whenever the OP opens Safari as a new process :p

..but the plugin is still the culprit, no?

Remove all plugins / turn off any crappy "load last opened tabs" features that may exist and re-test Safari.

I've had so little Safari crashes since using Macs I could count them on one hand (zero on Leopard). When I hear of Safari crashing I always assume it's down to a third party plugin / crap site.

Also, it's funny when Apple say they patched Safari in a software update because some people post saying "I hope it fixes the constant crashes", yet seem unwilling to look at what they actually have installed as a reason for those crashes. Not flaming the OP, but the plugin is clearly bogging down the system.

Doesn't Safari have the ability to re-open last closed tabs anyway? (In history submenu), so surely this plugin is worthless? What do you do when you want to look at porn.. navigate to another page before closing Safari? It's unnessicary legwork :p;)

I haven't had any problems with Glims apart from the slow session restoring problem which rarely bothers me because I hardly quit Safari since I use the sleep function on my Mac all the time. Also, there's the fact the plug-in is still in beta which could be a reason why the OP is having a problem.

As previously said, all I can suggest is to email the developers and see what they have to say. I've emailed them a few times for feature requests and bugs I've come across and they've always responded with courtesy :p

The plug-in doesn't only do that ability automatically, it also offers lots of other features if you read on its website.

...but Safari will restore all tabs from the last session, anyway? (no 3rd party plugin needed)

:p

Do you have a source for proof of this explanation unless you're referring to SIMBL?

It was originally just a collection of various things read on the internet into a "don't mess about with Safari" note in my head :p

But, just for you, I put my Googlin' skills to use and found:

You're altering a program that in no way, shape or form supports it. Bad things can and will happen when you do that.

If you want to alter a browser to your needs, use Firefox! Or potentially Chrome soon I think :)

It's a bit unfair to say that plug-ins are dodgy for Safari. You could say the same Firefox's vast amount of extensions that are available and they do exactly what you have described.

If anyone likes the functionality plug-ins/extensions provides then they should install and use them. As previously mentioned, if they are beta versions, users will have to be aware that something wrong could potentially happen and the OP is a good example of this.

The articles you've provided which I appreciate you for providing them, are unfortunately out of date since InputManagers have been changed in Leopard to make it more secure. However, "dodgy" plug-ins/extensions can still be loaded and potentially cause the application to crash. It's up to the users of these plug-ins/extensions to see whether they are worth using for the extra functionality at a compromise.
