my macro rig + shots

cheers mark, Im a cabinet maker so did it at work, made a jig and used sash cramps to pull it together, its a special cross core ply especially used for curved work. the ply is 1.5mm thick, several bits were glued back and front then cramped into the jig, when the glue cures it holds the bracket in the curved shape. machined the slots and rounded the ends, gave it a quick spray with lacquerer then cut back and waxed to give it a nice feel. simples :)

beermonster, extension tubes will work with any lens.

All amazing photos!
Makes me want to get macro lens even sooner! But they are all too expensive for atm! :(

Tubes or reversing rings are what you need!
Google it if your not sure...

Advantage of tubes is when you do eventually cave and buy a proper macro lens you can use the tubes with it to get closer than 1:1, so definatly not a wasted investment!

:)

I definitely will check that out then :D Thanks for that.

EDIT: How do they fit? Does it have to be an EF lens?

Steve, i can make you a bracket for free, the only costly part of the whole thing is the bolts, which are a few quid. i was going to make a few spares so if you want one send me your address and i'll sort you out, you'd just need to get hold of the bolts.

If you are making a few, I would very much be up for trying one out please. As i use an Arca Swiss L-Plate on my camera, I was thinking I could use something like this;

to attach the bracket to the camera. Would make it quick release as well. :)

Thats probably a better method actually and easier and faster to do than steam bending. I just like making wood turn to jelly :D. I'm hoping to get back into cabinet making, I miss working with wood.

ok, more people have asked for a bracket than i anticipated. i dont mind making them and dont want any money for them. i might ask you to pay for postage if it turns out to be expensive, though they should just fit in an A4 envolope.
im off work next week so dont expect them for a week or so.

MK and fstop can you send me your addresses.
wedge i got your e-mail i'll sort you out with one.

Nice idea and some good shots there too. I want to get into taking macro shots as there isn't much interesting landscape in my area. Am I best to start with some cheap tubes/extender things or should I pick up a lens?

My camera is the Nikon D70s and I have a decent tripod, now external flash though yet.

@ OP these macro shots are amazing!!

I love macro images, I wish that I had a decent camera to take shots like yours though!!

How much did you pay for that camera out of curiousity??

This image is my favourite out of all the pics here:

Finally got my setup stable and found this little chap and his brothers/sisters stripping one of Mrs Snapshot's plants

He's one of the largest on the plant at about 2cm long when stretched out but curled up nicely when threatened. Dunno what he is but he's really voracious - it only took him and the rest two days to completely strip the plant. Setup was D90, 105mm VR Micro Nikkor, 36mm Kenko tube and SB-400. Looks like I need a diffuser on the flash.
