All k series chips.
No difference between overclocks on the two.
Also, just to illustrate - to get a stable high overclock most people disable hyperthreading![]()
So not all then?

I'm simply saying, pal. Money would be better spent with i5 and a beefier graphics card than the HD6970 (even if it is a very decent card) or on a better cooler, or if you're lucky a few beers for the guy who helped him spec it
Also, you can get 5GHz on the £104 MSI C45. You can also get 5GHz on the most expensive P67 mobo around. By no means am I saying it's a bad board, it's great, but if you have £70 to 'waste' on the i7 over the i5 then surely you can 'waste' some more on a better graphics card or other equipment.
The money saved just about brings a GTX580 into budget. Check out the comparison
What res will he be gaming at, out of interest?
Low profile ram (no stupid heatsinks, e.g. no Vengeance) will fit perfectly fine.
Realistically, http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-290-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517
XMS3 is your best bet. The tests OCuk have done with it show pretty good results too, without horrendously large heatsinks.
