After a long and constant battle with rot on my old classic Saab 900 8valve turbo , and faced with a £1000 welding bill , i decided to put the old girl to bed. Here she was in better days ....

Always looking for a challange i went and bought a 2000 year Mercedes 230K CLK.
Now anyone who know about Merc and there , shall we say paint work problems ,on there 1998 to 2004 cars,(due to using new fangles water based "nano" paints)the car was errrr a bucket! , anyhow pics paint a thousand words so .....

So as you can see most people would have walked away , and to tell you the turth there were days i wished i had!
Structure of the car was sound but on closer inspection
2 front wings were rotten ....replaced with rust free second hand ones

2 doors were rotted from inside out.....replaced with rust free secondhand ones
rear quarter panels at arches rotten , cut out and new arches formed

boot lock no metal just a hole , cut out and new metal let in.

After everything was trial fitted on car for proper fit , it was removed and bilt hamber rust proof waxes etc pumped inside all cavities and doors , sills , arches etc.
i removed the front rear bumpers , boot and doors to prepair them properly.

once satisfied with everything , whole car was sprayed in original solid black.

here are pics of restoration ....

So, you got rid of a rusty Saab, and bought....a rusty Mercedes.

*slow hand clap*

:p

Why do this much work for a 11 year old ... CLK 230? They weren't fantastic.

Good work on the restoration! :)

never been a conventional guy , i quite like the clk nice handling with right shock/spring set up h and r and bilstiens. i spent 4k all in , and that included buying the merc , so prob less than someone will loose driving a new car out of a show room ;)
this was my fast foray into repairing older cars , i dont have the time now and work away a lot , so my next merc will be work free , or the dam garage can do it! :D

And a black CLK will be easy to sell , drug dealers , and gansters love them ;)

Those wheels are utterly foul by the way. It's one thing buying replicas of decent looking wheels, but replicas of something that nasty (and they don't suit the car)? Why?

Plenty of nice looking Mercedes wheels out there.

thanks :D TBH there like Marmite , you love them or hate them , i have had equal good and bad , so i will leave them , proper merc or AMG wheels would cost more than i paid for car , so its a comprimise i was willing to make

AMG replica? I haven't seen any AMG rims that look like that lol.

Props for doing the work though mate. Enjoy it.

Must have been a bit on the costly side ...

Does look really nice tho so hats off. I've been wanting to fix everything up on the outside of my (first) car but it's to expensive for me :(
