Luckily I've only had it a month and there's a 6 month warranty on it but still...

The passenger window drops and lifts randomly so the alarm keeps going off, I've done the window position reset thing but to no avail. Going back to the garage on Monday morning :(

A quick Google suggests that the microswitch may have failed, anybody have and experiences of changing one of these?

Girlfriends mini does this. You can open the door, window drops, close door and it doesn't reposition. Reading its a common problem. Keep meaning to get that sorted.

I wouldn't mind so much if that was the end of it Tr1p but unfortunately the alarm goes off every single time it randomly opens/closes :(

Hope you're right Bledd, this is the most I've ever spent on a car and the thought of it just being another car with loads of stuff not working terrifies me! When I was buying cars for <£500 and running them into the ground they were almost disposable.

Sounds exactly like microswitch problems on TT's. Sometimes it can be a split wire in the wiring coming into the door, as it goes brittle over time and splits when you open it.

Is there anything right with BMW Maxi's? (I refuse to call them Minis on principle)

Various niggles that I keep seeing described as "common" and a major safety fault, twice reported by Watchdog which BMW denies exists.

I think the later ones post 06 are more troublesome, mines a 52 so there will invariably be things like this that crop up but I guess that comes with the territory.

I'd fix it myself but on principle I'll drive the 50 miles each way and wait for them to fix it purely because its under warranty... I just hope they play ball.

Out of curiosity, where is the microswitch?

Good result :)

I know you can save a bit of cash going private but just that piece of mind you get from the garage is worth the premium in my eyes.

Had mine for 3 or 4 years now (2006 model) and all that's failed is the knock sensor so I don't think that's too bad really.
