My Mini-Sidewalk

I think you implied it when you said that a thread, about doing a project/rebuild with a mini, a classic, british car was pathetic.

I have said nothing of the sort. The thread is not pathetic and neither is spending time rebuilding a car you like. I simply said the fact that a car built in 1996 requires a rebuild already is 'pathetic'. How many times must I clarify this?

You dont get it. It probably doesnt NEED a rebuild he just wants to have a rebuild on it to make it faster.

So what if it was made in 1996, it is almost a 40 year old design when it was made so it is going to need some attention, like all cars do from time to time.

However you are still saying that doing a rebuild on a car from 1996 is pathetic though. Why dont you just leave now, instead of posting for no reason?

No, I am absolutely NOT saying that. Doing the rebuild is not pathetic. Having to do it in the first place is, but thats a reflection on the manufacturer of the car and NOT the owner. Why is this proving so hard to grasp? I'm not asking you to agree with me, you are entitled to your opinion but please at least stop trying to make it look like I've said something completely different.

by reading this page i guess op is me and it means opening/original poster or something ?? and to clarify again this was my project car it dosent need a full engine rebuild it could stay as it is and drive about fine for some time i'd say but because i like mini's that much i want to keep this and make it Faster for racing about on B roads *ahem* the tracks or taking to a drag strip for a bit of fun...:p

and the thing is it really dosent matter when you buy a mini new or older the same poor design will ruin the car after 2 years (rust) unless it has a LOT of layers of paint (done professionally) underseal stone chipp all that stuff and waxed and washed at least 1's a week if your going to use it daily but without the bad design it wouldn't look so good xD...

If it didn't need it then why do it; because it needed it. He wanted it the way he did and to make it perfect it needed the rebuild.

I don't know why you guys are all jumping on fox, all he is saying is that a car from 1996 should not need a major overhaul like this is only so many years. Hardly slating the cars heritage or whatever. I agree.
And before you jump on me, i like minis.

agreed

fox has a point. Yes you all love your minis, but the fact of the manner is that they rust and need lots of work

An old E type jag for example, was built to be the pinnacle of perfection and the utmost in automotive craftmanship. The Mini was not, it was cheap affordable transport for the masses, and the worksmanship in the car reflected this.

Agreed rust can be a problem. But look, the overall design/maufacturing of the car hasnt exactly had a radical change between 1959 - 2000. Believe it or not the one i drive has a tiny spot of rust on the inside of the drivers door which is quick and easy to fix. Also it is quite amazing how available parts are for the classic mini in the UK alone. Compared to other cars designed at this time, it is quite rare.

Woo mini thread :D Everyone needs to have had a go in one of these cars! Always good to see someone doing what's needed to keep one on the road.

That top-gear clip is awesome. Apparently there was a (real) mini show where the gates were too narrow for BINIs to get in :D

Owning a mini is about so much more than owning a car. Especially this year :D

That's great, I really like Minis :)

That said, although Fox isn't the most diplomatic person in the world, I do kind of see his point. It does seem an excessive amount of work to have to do to an N-reg car (looks at 25-year-old car in sig that hasn't had anywhere near as much work ;) )

Still, it's a hobby and I love project Minis

Depends on how well the car has been looked after through its life.

Guess the year.
