u should second hand u my find some good cards for that price but yea it will do it even play cs:s at decent frames :D if your mum is in to that stuff :)

Cheers m8, I just want a box fresh card for the old dear. Its crazy what you can build at the low end when your just speccing for the actual needs.
 
well I guess it depends on how serious she is at photoshopping ( she realises its not shopping for photos right ? ) as the next version of photoshop is rumoured to have some form of GPU acceleration.
 
I'd be massively tempted to save the money and go for on-board graphics. RAM is so cheap, and CPUs so powerful (even a dual-core Celeron) that on-board graphics actually start to make sense at this end of the market.

In fact, I never build PCs for friends or family - it's too expensive in terms of support. Get them a Dell with a helpline and 3-years on-site maintenance and most folks are blissfully happy. No, it's not as good a deal, or as fast, but it's much more conducive to harmony in the home and family.

My wife loves to remind me that my computers are always 'broken' because they always need new bits whereas her's hasn't needed anything doing to it for almost 18 months:D
 
Are you building up a brand new rig for her then?

I would just go for a cheap AMD X2 CPU with a 780G chipset motherboard (can even go mATX to save space)

As another poster said, you definitely just want to get a mobo with onboard graphics. For what your mother wants to do a discrete graphics card is both a waste of money and a waste of electricity when running.

Take the money saved and spend it on a better proc and mobo.
 
lol turns out mummy wants to do some gaming.....but only tetris and bust a move, so I'm thinking 2x 280 might be a good idea? :D

I haven't purchased anything yet so thanks for all the suggestion.

I got my Mum & Dad a new PC and just chucked a cheap 1650 Pro in it. It runs Geoff Hamilton's 3D garden design at a good 60 fps so they're happy :D
