My Mums heating has packed in - cheapest way to get it working?

if you go for vaillant make sure it's the ecotec plus range. the ecotec pro are their budget range and you can only get a 5yr warranty on the pro's. As said the plus's come with 7 year warranty.

wouldn't touch baxi with a bargepole.

Valiant all the way,£2000 will get you a good combi and a flush.

Can't seem to find anyone that cheap and that's in the Burnley and Pendle area. Lowest we have got is £2450, but they said it doesn't need a powerflush, they just flush it out normally, unless it's really bad.

Have Baxi gone downhill? I have always thought of them as a good brand and the current boiler is a 20 year old Baxi.

I have never rated Baxi as a good brand.

Valliant is far superior, more reliable,they guarantee 15 years parts availability, & I known people who had baxi combis that have develop faults, & had them replaced with a Valiant.

Currently have a Valliant 824 Ecotec Plus here, had it must be nearly 10 years, been superb, never broken down.

My previous place had a Valliant combi installed around 1994, it's still in use there today.

Did you look on the Valliant site for the installer?

Yeah, got the numbers from the vaillant website.

How many rads do you power from your 24kw boiler? There are 8 rads here, in a 3 bed semi. Just wondering if she could get away with a 24kw to lower the price a bit. The bath never gets used and she has an electric shower.

Look into the new deal where you get the cost of the new boiler added to your energy bill so you wont notice the cost, i believe it guarantees you wont pay more under the deal, so worst case you pay the same in bills but get a new system etc

We tried to get this done for our boiler. It's an old 1970's baxi back boiler, which gave up the ghost beginning of the year, the heat exchanger cracked so it's just condemned. However the boiler only came under an 'amber' recommendation meaning that they'd only pay part of it, we'd still be paying most of it! Plus they do a credit check on you. So it ended up being completely useless. An 'approved' fitter also quoted close to 4 grand to sort it out!

your heating demand is probably nearer 12-15kw so a 24kw would be fine. they need the extra output to achieve a decent hot water flow rate.

24kw = 10L per minute

31kw = 12.5L

37kw = 15L

A Valliant Ecotec Plus 24 should manage 12-14 radiators, so it more than suitable for your needs.

I have a mid terraced 3 bed house, double glazed, wall insulation & 500mm loft insulation.
Only have one bathroom, occasionally use bath, a bit slow filling bath,but normally use electric shower, also have hot water to outside bog & my workshop, good flow to them.:eek:

Currently running 9 radiators, & a plinth heater, all radiators 600mm height, 3 bedrooms each have a 1300mmType 11, bathroom 600mmType 11, Hall 900mm Type 22, lounge 1600mm Type 22, Dinning 1300mm Type 11, kitchen 500mm plinth heater. o/s bog 500mm Type 21, Utility 900mm Type22.

Thanks for the help guys, sounds like a 24kw is the one to go for. It was the calculator on the Vaillant website that suggested a 28kw minimum.

Had a quick measure up:

1 x 1800mm x 500mm double convector
1 x 1500mm x 300mm double convector
2 x 1000mm x 300mm double convector
2 x 600mm x 600mm double convector
1 x 700mm x 500mm single convector
1 x 550mm x 1200mm towel warmer

Double glazing and loft insulation but no wall or floor insulation. The 300mm high rads might be swapped for 400mm at some point.

Baxi have improved lots, but still dont have the reliability of the WB or Vaillant products, but judging by my experience of newer Vaillants they arent as realiable as the older model (242). This is just going on how much trouble i have with boilers fitted at my various properties.

Baxi have Siemens components inside and efficiency and reliability have improved vastly.
