Just traded in an 08 plate Avensis for a 59 plate.... Avensis.

I'm trying to avoid him from now on.

Is this common? Do people REALLY get new cars every YEAR?

Some people are funny about the "must have the new reg plate number status" and normally its nothing to do with the car its self. Then again if they have the cash to waste who cares its up to them if they must swing their new reg penis/jugg's about the place

For some people its the norm. I am going to try my hardest to persuade my mum not to by another 1.3 tdi brand new astra club! Or any new car for that matter. But thats just how she likes to spend her money

edit : My mum doesnt have a penis :P

The thing is, I had a nosy through the car window, and its EXACTLY the same as their last car (same engine etc). The only difference is the colour (and that only differs by a shade or two). Madness I tell you!

You should buy his 09 plate next year, one owner from new, well looked after (I assume) - what could go wrong!

Wow, thanks for the insightful reply.

No worries. I'm not even sure as to the purpose of your question, since you have proved yourself that yes, people REALLY do buy brand new cars every year.

Assuming that you were expressing surprise at this fact, I was responding with the only valid answer that I could come up with - that this chap has decided to shirk logic in favour of having something shiny and new every year, because he simply feels like it.

I'm sure - he works from home.

Just cause he works from home doesn't negate the possibility of it being a company car, I work from home a few days a week and I sort of have a company car but I opted out and got my own.

Also, if it's his own business then he could be offsetting VAT payments by swapping cars each year.

He works from home every day, and I don't think he is self employed.

Even if he was self employed, why would swapping cars each year be cost effective in the slightest?

It might not be. Has every single one of your life decisions been cost effective? Did you need that large plasma TV, which will be worth zero in 8 years, since the 32" CRT you bunged out did the job perfectly well? Did you need £80 trainers when £40 trainers would have done?

It's not about needs, it's about wants and consumer choice.

I dunno why anyone would change it that quick, especially for the same model. Must be loaded I guess.
