My new Alfa!

If it's the same fault you get with Fiat's Blue & Me going into the menu and importing the phonebook again should save you from having to mess about with the battery.

Neah, the problem I had was that the menu wouldn't work and none of the steering wheel controls were either. Only way was to disconnect the battery. However it's nice and quick with the funky battery terminal clips.

well, i too have a couple of niggles, perhaps you can help?

Firstly, when i plug the USB drive in for MP3s it doesnt keep playing the songs in any order, just repeats the same song unless i forward the track manually?

Also, should my alarm beep twice (with a small pause between them) when i lock the car? or is that a fault?

I find the nav ok, but would be better if i could use post codes, and i havent had the same success with you for the voice recog - we fall out quite regularly.

but otherwise pretty happy.

that looks really mean!

ever since i saw a Q4 i thought they can look really aggressive and it's nice to see one in the same vein, rather than some poxy base model with 15" steelies :p

Looks good, but you could do with some better pictures as those water marks down the side of the car ruin it :p

Have you got m4p's or anything on there? It sounds like it's trying to build your MP3 library but failing miserably. I'd try removing any stuff from the media settings and ensuring your USB pen is formatted with FAT32 and contains only mp3's or m4a's. Mine did something similar until I cleaned up my USB pen and did the above.

2 beeps is normal when locking (I think). I can't remember off hand but its either 2 beeps on unlock or 2 beeps on lock :S

For the MP3 issue Blue&Me's database of songs has got messed up. Pop any other memory stick in there and turn the car on, it will build a new database for that memory stick. Now put your original stick in and it will build a new database again, this time it'll be all working. Can also be fixed by disconnecting the battery.

If you don't have another stick just copy all your music onto your PC and pop one random MP3 on the stick, put it in let B&M build it's library and then put all the music back on and let it create the correct database.

It's a known fault with B&M but thankfully doesn't happen that often. You'll find that once you've fixed it you won't see it again for months/years and then all of a sudden you'll need to rebuild the media library by changing round drives.

As for the alarm beeping twice, not sure if it's the same as the Bravo but if you push the lock button once you hear the car locking, pushing the lock button twice quickly will lock the car and engage the deadlocks which gives the impression of two beeps/noises. It's become second nature for me to engage the deadlocks now as I always push the button twice.

Can't help with the B&M Nav as I've not go it, the voice thing started out hit and miss with me. I've 'learnt' what she likes and what she doesn't now which helps. Spelling contacts how they should sound and using special characters such as the e in Zoe with an ' above it helps. Pushing the button and saying 'Playlists' 'Artists' 'Play Something' 'Shuffle' all work perfectly now as does names I know how to pronounce to her. 'Call Sammy' always works where as 'Call Haydn' sometimes brings up 'Home' and 'Home' sometimes brings up 'Haydn'.

EDIT: Drive must be FAT32 (B&M won't read NTFS) and it has been known to have issues with big drives (although my 16GB USB drive has been fine after I originally got it setup). People have been known to keep a 32mb old USB stick with one track in the car just in case to swap over and refresh the library but I think that's overkill tbh.

It won't matter if you have MP4's or any other documents on there as B&M just skips past them, doesn't really matter what folder structure you have or where Playlist files are either as long as the path directory isn't longer than B&M and FAT32 can handle (Don't know the limit off the top of my head, 64/128 characters maybe?)

Mine pooped up with .m4p (protected MPEG-4 audio) on the USB stick. It also pooped up when I had tonnes of stuff on my disk (very messy folder structure), it locked up whilst trying to build a database. Character limit is 255.

I have to admit that I'm really liking the 159 styling.. It's not so pretty from the rear, but it's still better then a 3 series BM, which for me, is as ugly as sin from behind :)

I guess as a company car, where costs aren't that much of a concern, I can see that on a few important levels, the Alfa would be a better choice the a 3 series for some.

Got linked to this thread from another, so a year on how is Alfa ownership?

As shoddy and unreliable as some people would like us to believe?

Surely his car will have imploded / exploded by now...it's the Alfa way!

Lovely looking car and would love to hear how the first year has been. I've had a 159 whilst the GT has been in for a service and was impressed by the build quality of it, for an Alfa!
