Well, that’s it. After many months of looking, and me being very fussy and not buckling to the pressure of compromising, yesterday I collected my new car.
It’s a 4 and a half year old 530i Sport in Titanium Silver with a manual gearbox and Black Leather. Full BMW service history and – even better – full BMW warranty until 2007. The car is pretty much as close to immaculate as you could ever hope a used car to be, the interior is almost like new and the rear seats ARE as new. I got it from a private seller in Berkshire – and the guy was pretty much the textbook example of who you would want to buy a car from.
He had a huge folder with every document relating to the car, ever. Servicing, tyres, warranty work, you name it, it’s here, including the original purchase invoice for £33,000 – he has owned the car from brand new, and I am now its second owner. He only decided to part with it in order to buy a brand new 530i Sport, manual gearbox, silver, with black leather. No dodgy circumstances, nothing felt iffy, just an incredibly nice bloke selling his much loved car. As I drove away he told me to make sure I always park it at the end of the carpark so nobody can dent it, and he looked sad to see it go. I couldn’t have hoped for more.
The car itself? Fantastic. The performance was, for me, staggering. It is the fastest car I have ever driven, but it’s also just as nice to drive nicely as well. From the centre of Swindon to my driveway last night it returned 37.6mpg – and that was at an indicated 75mph. Amazing for a 3 litre Straight Six. The handling is simply superb, fly around roundabouts and it just stays flat (Not had a chance nor the confidence to throw it down some lanes yet). Not a single rattle or squeak from the interior, I absolutely love it.
So there we go. My new 530i Sport. It took long enough, but the wait paid off, so far!
