My new graphics card... did i do good ?

Now he brings out the box & it turns out this is a brand new ...
7800GTX 512MB ... what transpired next was me trying to keep the smile off my face, long enough to pay for the card & quickly get out of the store.

This sentence here is what makes me think that it was a mistake!

It would be a reasonable assumption from the rest of the post that the shop guy didn't really know what he was selling.

I'm not saying the purchaser shouldn't be feeling pleased, only they can decide if their happy with the situation or not, but it seems sometimes that people really 'get off' on coming out on top!

Maybe it was the shop owner trying to shift some stock - who knows?

As I say, it was the "well done matey", "Result!", "As long as it was a big shop/owner minted" etc etc comments that left a bad taste in my mouth.

Cuchulain. I'm not a 'moralistic keyboard warrior' as you put it, but please don't assume that I would do exactly the same in that situation.

Also, slapping each other on the back saying "well done matey" at the possible expense of somebody else is hardly a positive use of an internet forum either.

I never said Aceshigh did anything wrong, legally or otherwise. He was offered a card at a price, and he accepted it, admittedly whilst knowing that it was a mistake. If he didn't think it was a mistake, then why was he in a rush to get out of there?!

And wakinglimb, just because somebody disagrees with you, doesn't mean they're a troll!

Remind me never to be one of your customers then amdnv! ;)

Retailers and shop staff are just ordinary people trying to earn a living you know, just like you and me...

Yip, but way the world is going now, the more dishonest you are the better you get on, bad I know.
The honest law abiding peeps get **** on, I dont see big deal, if he left shop after overpaying, as soon as he was over doorstep, they dont have to refund him, or if really decent, they will check cash intake at end of day and see how much is over in till, unless worker pockets the extra :p

I wouldnt work in a shop, I aint natured to deal with awkward members of the public asking n00b Q's :D

ACE, enjoy your card, you probably wont ever get a deal like that again, them deals/mistakes are 1 in lifetime for most.

Nice going buddy, bet a few of you going on about how immoral it is would have done the same. Human nature! Take what you get and dont expect a penny more. I aslo dont see anywhere where it implies its a small shop and morally whats the difference, kind of a straw man argument if your implying that if its a smal shop then its wrong and if its a big shop your right.

Well i would say good going if it was a large shop but i cant stop feeling for the young guy in the shop if they told him off or took it from his pay.Just think that young lad is on £200 or less a week if he had to pay it back then no money for a week.
I would think twice how old was this kid ?

I wonder if it jealousy causing this critiscm of a bargain on behalf of someones fortune or the morality of the situation.

P.S not trying to provoke an argument :)

All these so called "do gooders" obviously did'nt read the line.............

Now it turns out this was the last card of this type & was considered old stock.

Yes it does seem to be too good to be true but as this card is not being made anymore and they probably could'nt sell it then maybe they did knock it down to get rid of it. Don't forget that it has been beaten in both performance and price by the 7900GTX 512 and was likely to be sitting around for a very long time. Indeed it may never have been sold. It makes far more sense for a shop to sell an item at a knock down price than to have it sitting around earning nothing and taking up valuable stock space.

Good luck to you i say.

Couldnt agree with you more,,a bit out of context but was talking to a mate the other day about our school days, now I would say I was about ''average'' behaviour wiseat school , I was a bit bad and disruptive when I got the chance but at the end of the day I got the bare minimum work done as most of the other kids did. Now also there were the really ''bad'' kids, always stealing fighting drinking and taking drugs and bunking school, and then the ''Square kids'' as we used to call them, lol, who worked hard as they could done all their work and got bullied for it. All of us are now in our 28-30's and you see all the was then ''Bad'' kids driving round in new Merc's and BMW's with big houses and stunning girlfriends, all the ''Squares'' are at the moment working in the local Tescos and driving old fiesta's. All the averages like me got manual labouring jobs and never have enough money or have to hard save for luxuries, lol.

One of these days Im gonna change and be a right bad ******, I just never seem to get round to it.lol

pastymuncher, IF that was the case, then of course it's quite different!

That's not how I read the whole post though.

I shall just say enjoy the card, and lets hope it doesn't short out and burn your house down!! :D (A joke in case anybody misses the smiley!)

Anyway....

Jeez, somebodys gotta offer an alternative "angel on your shoulder" type view to keep you guys in check!

I'm off to polish my halo now, oh, and my BMW. You don't have to be bad to own one you know!

Now, anybody know where you can get stunning girlfriends? Does OCUK have a section for them?

Yours, a moral do gooder! ;)

at work i had been offered a big batch of 7800's seriously under cost because evreyone is looking to dump stock before year end....had to decline because the 7900's have totally thrown the market prices out of sync
