So, the cheque cleared and GAK sent me their wonderful B-Stock Ibanez IC400 via next day delivery...
i was anxious as the auction didnt really give much away about the state of the guitar except it had some serious damage at the bottom and a picture of the damage was shown..

i was expecting dents and chips in the paintwork over the whole guitar aswell, like you would from a display model that anyone can test drive in the store - especially for a "cheap" guitar.

so, it turned up today and i ripped the box apart eagerly awaiting what was inside!

here she is, she doesnt have a name yet but i'm sure i'll think of something!

and here is a nice clear picture of the damage at the bottom of the guitar, this is the reason its B stock and i got it for £155 instead of the usual £370

comments and slaggings off (andelusion) welcome :)

Mmm, nice guitar - what pups are in there and what wood is the body (I'm assuming it's basswood knowing Ibanez)? Do you think you'll be able to repair or at least make good the damage?

Although I sold my Rhoads V, I still yearn for a pointy guitar to complement my Jackson DXMG and LP :(

A nice buy, congrats

well, when i get my project blog from my other guitar done you'll see what ive been able to work around with that one!

this damage will be tricky to fix as its a bound guitar buti should be able to get it workable. either that or i'll be black gaffer taping that bit :p

body is mahogany apparently though it doesnt look like it from what i can see, but i dont think the ibanez website would lie.

its got the standard ibanez pickups in it (the AH1 and AH2) but i'm tempted to put my "spare" dimarzios (D Sonic & PAF Joe) in this one and get a nailbomb set for my project guitar.

Met an old mate last week and he invited me along to his group practise.
I got there and he had a Stevie Ray Vaughan Strat that looked completely knackered and his band then played 90 mins of SRV material. Afterwards I asked him how much the SRV strat had cost him when he told me he had made it himself from a lot of original strat parts  Some bloke had already offered him £2000 for it and it plays like a dream. This is the original SRV strat and as you can see its been through a war and to my eyes my mate has got it spot on.

Anyway, he remembered my battered old now unplayable 1979 American Fender Strat and asked if he could renovate it for me. It needs a big job doing because I put a Floyd Rose copy on it and dug out a lot of wood at the time. He rang me tonight and is going to put an original fender tremelo on, an original fender pickup to replace my DiMarzio and do what else he can. I can't wait.

difference between mine and the SRV strat, which is beautiful, is that mine is just a bit smashed where as the strat is age worn and still in one piece, just like the Jeff Beck esquire - which is also pretty fine!

i had a dream last night where i'd bought another - thank god i woke up from that one!

This is my fender that he's working on. It is unplayable at the moment.
The electrics are all over the place too. in the early 80's I tried to modify them and theres even a battery inside for something.

Speaking as someone who has recently spend six hours re-wiring my Jackson, totally stripping the electrics and starting again, it's not that big a job to be honest.. I assume there is some sort of battery-powered preamp in your strat DMP? I quite like the distressed look, seems kinda cool

is that a USA or a Mexican?

those knocks dont look too bad :)

Looks like a late USA 70s strat, 78/79. I think Mexican fenders started when CBS sold the company in the mid 80s.

I have a 1970 strat body on an 88 reissue neck. It has too many scratches dings and cracks to care about any more. Plus the fact someone routed out the bridge pickup with a chisel and stuck a humbucker in there, so I guess it could be called a proper frankenstrat. I'll try and get a pic later when I get back from work.

Its a proper American 79 one and my mate has already offered me £300 for it in the state its in because of its aged look.
I think it is a battery powered pre-amp I fitted in t'early 80's but I've told him to rip everything out and start again.
Its the big hole in the body under the trem that is the problem and if his filling works and it will take a fender trem he has, then he will continue.
If not then he has a spare body and we'll go from there.
