Well after months deliberating and waiting for the 'due anytime now' newer version, I have finally made the switch to Mac and got me an iMac:

Its the newly released 24" 3.06GHz version in standard configuration (2GB memory, 500GB drive, Nvidia 8800GS 512mb), which is quite a nice upgrade from my 5 year old Barton XP2800+ PC!

I have had it for about a week now and have had many 'wow' moments that my brother kept telling me about that make using a Mac so rewarding...

Within 5 minutes of powering it up, I had created my profile (somehow Apple knew my all my details when I entered my email address - guess it must check the iTunes database?), I was online, my Mail was configured and I was having a video chat with my brother through iChat!

One of the reasons I was persuaded to get a Mac was all this talk of 'It just works'. Sure enough everything I have tried to do has been very easy. Plugged in my printer it worked. Plugged in my camera, again it was recognised straight away and my photo's were imported into iPhoto. Wanted to pull across all my files from my old PC, again so easy. Anytime I have wondered 'How do you do this?' I have turned to the Help and it has the answer I am looking for.

Another reason I chose a Mac was that I have loads of Camcorder tapes from over the years that I had been put off importing to my old PC as it would have been tediously slow trying to do anything decent with them and that I didn't have any good software for the job. Again, I just connected my Camcorder via Firewire, iMovie fired up and I started importing. The iMac handles the footage with ease, it really does feel slick and as if its hardly taxing the computer at all. Over the last few days I have edited some footage of a recent track day to Silverstone and put together a movie and photo slide show in iDVD which I think is the muts nuts!

Other neat things I love are; the Widgets (iStat pro), Spaces and Expose, the screen, the way the screen flips when you switch users, it waking up from Sleep in an instant, iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD...I could go on but I think I have waffled on enough!

Anyway, I thought I would share my experience with you guys and look forward to discovering more :)

Quick question - can you guys see the picture? Its not showing here at work, not sure of its our Web Monitor blocking it?

If/When i get a job, got a feeling an apple box with something inside will be one of my first purchases :(.

If I had a better paid job (or less bills, smaller mortgage etc :( ) I'd replace the remaining Windows machines with iMacs and upgrade my MacBook to a macBook pro and give the wife the MacBook.

As it is I'll just stick to getting a Mac Mini media centre...
