My new project - loft conversion. How to level the floor?

Yeah, they're not. Part of the job will be to replace the old joists.

Doesn’t that make the original post irrelevant?

Your having a whole new suspended floor so why would you need to level old ceiling joists and another thin non-structural looking price of timber?

Downstairs ceilings are all coming down. The old joists are in the old house which we're starting to refurb next year.

I may be missing something, but can't you leave the existing joists in and lay new, deeper, joists (uniform depth) in between ?

This might be the best option, I suppose taking the old ones out doesn't provide any real benefit.

yeah agree the old become redundant, but may as well be left in place, but if redoing the ceilings below would just cut them off at the wall if you want. Cant see how they would do any harm if left in situ
