My new rice cooker

Keep an eye on it and drain it when your done, I rinse it in a little boiled water to get rid of the starch that has come out.

If it's not right you've undercooked, overcooked or it's covered in starch.

I guess if you can't tell by looking when the rice is done you should get a machine.

Impressive.

If only I had rice more that once every few weeks.

Is there only this 1 cointerner to be cleaned (the one that you put water and rice into)?

You can get cheap rice cookers. You can pick one up for under £20, I've got a nice one like the one above. But the girlfriend in an attempt to clean it pulled out the rubber ring seal on the lid  Which I cant put back.

If you eat rice fairly regularly a rice cooker is almost a no brainer. At the cheap prices its pretty much use it, when it breaks throw it away.

Nowt wrong with my take which is large bowl, fill a quarter of easy cook long grain rice and fill with hot water and add salt etc then microwave 15 mins 800w and leave for a min when done drain and shower with hot water and serve. :)

Tho i guess its nice to have a device that cooks it good all the time but i like what i cook so im happy. :)

It sounds like most people who struggle to cook rice well in a pan are forgetting to wash it a few times before you cook it.

I dont proclaim to be an expert but all i do is:

- Wash rice by covering in water and swirling around our fingers. Replace the water a few times when it gets really cloudy.
- Put 1 cup water to 1/2 cup rice in your pan
- Turn heat on high until it starts to simmer/almost boil
- Turn right down and cover
- Leave for ~10mins, don't touch the rice until it's cooked and not watery at all
- If you're unsure it's always best to leave it a bit longer as soggy rice is horrible! It will only carry on steaming anyway.

Easy! :)

I do mine in the pan by the reduction method and I can do it perfect every time, though to be fair it has taken years of practice and getting it perfect is dependent on the rice, the pan and the hob. I have to alter the method when I move house, change pans, rice or cook it somewhere else. Boiling rice tastes watery and ruins the texture in my opinion.

Wouldn't mind a rice cooker if I had the space though.

whats wrong with pan of water. I love rice and tend to use Basmati rice.

My method :

~75 g of rice per person

Boil pan of water, once on a rolling boiling, add salt, turn down heat slightly, add rice, stir the water around and leave for around 9 mins.

then check rice by using fork to take a few grains out, and taste test. that way you get perfect rice!

Fill up one cup with rice then pour into pan, add a cup and a half of water from the same cup into pan add salt to taste. Turn on cooker to the highest heat then wait until the water starts to boil, once this happens turn down cooker to it lowest setting and cover pan. In twenty minutes you will have enough rice to serve 2 people. This method will work for any type of rice. :D

This is the exact method i use that was taught to me by my mum:p...i make better rice than her although i dont think so...she says it so that she doesnt have to cook it lol:p

This is the best method and will get rice cooked as good as any fancy steamer!

Uncle Bens Microwave rice in a bag is where its at :D I couldn't understand how to cook rice if even if I was tought by my mother :)
I tend to microwave the chinese style or wholegrain rice on a daily basis, sprinkle some grated cheeeeeese and omonomonomonom!

When I moved out to uni a few years back the man who runs our local Chinese was telling me to get a proper rice cooker and a big sack of rice, easy cheap meals and I'd never go hungry again :).

Never did, but I am pretty apt at cooking rice just using a normal pan as long as I remember to keep an eye on it.
