My new VW Passat

The grunt 'almost' makes up for the lack of rpm, I just have to appreciate they're different animals. Sure there's moments I miss both the DC5 and even the Impreza's, but then this does the 'work miles' so much better than they ever did. A 335d would be a cake and eat it car for me - perfect all rounder.

Yeah I'll use Simon again, local boy.

Cool, I've kind of gone the other way - but would be more than happy to go back to a 6cyl BMW 3 series again. I never got bored of the gruntiness - I guess I just like engines that feel like they're really trying hard to shove you though the nearest hedge :).

Missed the thread originally- love the car. I could happily live with one, it's a solid all rounder- very comfortable, excellent build quality, looks, performance, economy and prestige. Couldn't get much different engine wise from the DC5! I don't think anybody can complain at the tractability of a powerful diesel though, one of my petrolhead friends and former Elise owner is now the happy owner of a diesel Scirocco and has no regrets.

...I wasn't hanging around as I've 100% for sure got a speeding ticket on the way. I do a trip to Glasgow every year at the end of Jan...

I've headed to Glasgow about six times & i've been pulled over on three of those occasions, thankfully only the one SP50 has been dished out but still pretty harsh stats against those who like to press on! :(

Nice looking motor Merlin, what sort of miles do you rack up each year? Do you still keep tabs on your old DC5?

Can't believe you specc'd wood on the inside, where's the Merlin gone that me Drex and Sim0ng went for a drive with all those years ago?!?

;)

*Sigh* I think I'm getting a passat estate as a car in about a weeks time does come with flashing orange lights and a custom vinyl wrap with the words highways maintenance though....

I think the cream leather and the wood looks lovely, much better than the usual 3 and 5 series choice of black or grey and that silver alu effect stuff or shiny black whatever the heck it is.
