My new website

You're gonna have to help me out - I'm not sure what it is I'm meant to have done! :o:)

lol sorry, I meant you'd just pointed out something so glaringly obvious which I hadn't noticed ie: I didn't realise i'd written it 3rd person then done the last bit 1st!

Fair play then. I'm just not all that keen on it, being able to have standardized nav buttons say at the bottom of a pic seems like something that should be a basic option. I'm clueless as to how these things actually work though. So was just commenting from a layout/ personal preference perspective.
just want to say that in firefox 3 at least you only need to hover over say 30% of the image side to be able to select another image depending on the side you hover, not just the actual arow button, so it isn't actually that bad at all.

the owl photo is brilliant! he is looking right at the camera as though to say "oh **** i've been spotted. stand still he wont notice me"

Nice site and fantastic photo's, keep it up!

I'd remove the splash page though, it doesn't serve much of a purpose other than adding one extra (albeit small) step for a user to get to the content.

Do you get the larger image that loads with it though? or do you just get a black screen and "enter" at the top.

I get the image with the enter button, so looks ok to me. I'm on firefox, but just tried it in IE and that worked too.

Nice website by the way, but agree with the comments on the intro 1st person/3rd person thing! :)

sorry if I didn't make myself clear mate re: splash page. As the site is setup to be simple, clear and direct why add an extra click just to see the photo's? I know why you added it, but just don't think it adds anything at all to the site! Does that make more sense now?

Thanks,

I just felt that having a main splash page would be better and give more impact that just going straight to the main page. Subjective I guess.

I agree that having a large image on the front page with no other content adds to impact, but splash pages are generally seen as bad form, as they require the user to click through to the rest of the site before they can actually do anything.

Perhaps a better approach would be to keep the front page as it is, but to add direct links to the other pages, so that it can serve as the 'main page' in itself.

Out of interest, what publishing platform are you using for the site? Is it a home-brew?

I actually like the splash page, and the background. I also appreciate the 3rd person thing, because while it feels odd as you do it, it gives a more professional feel as if you've gone and paid a company to design a proper site for you with supplied info.

The only odd thing I've noticed it that the first few times I viewed the site, the image never loaded. On the 4th attempt it loaded, and after clearing cache and looking again it wasn't there initially but it loaded on a refresh. I don't know if that's my ISP or the website.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but do you have a more flattering photo of yourself for the About section? The being out in the thick of it look is cool, but you look like you're about to start shouting "Oi! Whatchuuu lookin' at?!" :p
