For ages I have been dithering about getting a photography website set up for me, my friends and family. As a place for me to post random stuff as well as put images online for people to see.

Can you have a quick look and let me have your immediate impressions (not much content yet !)

It can be found here

Cheers !

Sleek, pretty easy to navigate. Guess everything will be even easier once you have a bit more stuff uploaded. Only thing is I'm not a fan of the gallery opening in a new window. That sort of thing annoys me. Apart from that, great

Tis the work of moments to get the gallery to open in the same window - I'll see what other people think....

Really like the look of it; simple and stylish! Letting the images speak for themselves, that's definitely the nicest approach me thinks. But, I can only agree with p0ss3s3d - not keen on the gallery opening in a separate window. I feel it takes away from the general feel of the website.

Looks good. How are the portfolios going to work when you get more images on there? One big image for each 'album' with a play button? or will these shrink down to some kind of a grid layout?

Not to keen on the logo , being you name, and then the same underneath with a '.com'. Not sure that's necessary really.

I also wonder whether 'portraits' and 'commercial' should be grouped under a drop header. Whilst you don't state in your original post that the websites for commercial gain, the site says gives off a different impression. In which case, you might want to expand on your skills (portraits, weddings, commercial, architecture etc) rather than limit yourself to two. In which case, they will clutter up the menu bar.

All fair points.

I was planning on the portfolio section have 4 or 5 on it at any one time showcasing recent work.

I take your point on the logo - one on the site, they can see/know the URL. I'll probably take your suggestion on this.

At the moment I photos an a very semi-semi-pro basis for friends and friends-of-friends so I am unlikely to expand too far in the future. If I do and need to add extra categories, then a drop down menu is the way forward, I agree.

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

I think my biggest issue with your site is its completely unspecific. Its a blog, a portfolio, a business and a biography; yet it fails to quite do any one of these fully.

I think its a touch too commercial; if its to be used for what you listed above. If it were me I would seperate business and personal (even if it is low key); setup a blog or flickr for your personal stuff and set this up as a business for your portraits/commercial stuff. I think the pictures of the kids on there are really fantastic; I would perhaps be looking at using that as a basis for a small business in your local area. I know my nursery charge a fortune for pictures of peoples kids and the other mums/dads from the antenatal classes often ask if I know a good photographer. A lot of mum/dads are really put off from using a shop as its expensive; you could act as a portable studio. Just a thought :-)

I must admit to trying to combine the two. in order of what I want it to achieve:

1) Business/portfolio - the two go hand in hand
2) Blog - as over time it will show people what I have been up to.

The biography is just some quick copy for the home page. I would suggest that this would be better being replaced with the kind of explanation I have given in this thread !

I actually quite like the web page, nice and simple. Only thing I found was a lack of photos, but I'm sure there'll be more in time~

i really like it too and the gallery is much better

type on portrait page, there is an S missing from the word studio

Really good site. Don't take all the credit for yourself as I believe Phate is using the same template :p

But I like the colours and the images that are on there. Just needs more of them! :)

I'm guessing the 'ProPhoto' text on the bottom stops me doing that

Too right. Now I have somewhere to put the images I plan on putting loads more up. The idea of the Blog section is that I can put up various stuff that doesn't fit anywhere else.

Thanks for the feedback....

Like the colour and style.

the drop down links loose colour on mouse over but the main links don't... is that ment to happen?
