My newly build computer.

Lol the components are all quite standard.

The psu is a stock packard bell 250 W.

And the motherboard is a stock packard bell MCP61.

That doesn't matter you need to start somewhere.

I would try and pickup another PSU and the memory as the first things. I'm pretty sure a more powerful £25ish PSU will be better than that one.

I presume your end goal will be to get some games running on there right?

FSP are generally very good PSUs, should be fine with anything up to a 4670 and maybe even the 4830 (but only barely).

You should be Able to do some good cable management since that case is so big, just group all of them together with cable ties.

Hey nice build for a n00b matey.

I would upgrade the mem first of all. Then possibly psu then gfx card when the funds allowed.

Also practice with your cable tidying. even a couple cable ties and such would tidy that up all a treat, your cable going to the cd-rom drive can be folded. May be some guides still out there on the web i think.

I just did a quick google with "folding ide cables" first link has a good pic, i cant post it as it does have other links to competitors sites.

Also that sata cable to your hdd could also be tidied up.

Just a few ideas for ya.

If you want to get seriously into modding, you could practice on that case. Depends on if your folks have some tools and will allow you to use them?

Well firstly, it's not a bad PC at all, you've done fine.
Secondly, the obvious first upgrade would be more RAM. This won't require new Power supply, just get some cheap stuff and put it in. But cheap corsair or kingston etc is nice ie value line.
Next, if you want to play games, even a £50 budget will give a massive upgrade but if you don't want to play games it will be fine.
Finallly, if you do want to play games but have no money, play some of the many great games that will run on your pc anyway. There are loads of great games that will run on almost any PC that is modern like yours.
Oh and FSP power supply is good, not the best but generally reliable in my experience.
ATI 4670 is a nice card that needs no extra power from the PSU but is quite fast and quite cheap.
Finally, don't worry about getting convinced to get the best PC ever, you already have a machine that will let you do/ use lots of good / fun programs. Spend what you can afford and don't worry about what you can't.

It was my birthday yesterday and im not £160 up, i was wondering if you guys can make me a basket to improve my computer to run games smoothly.

Cheers,
Jordan

EDIT: My computer will only rekonise 3.5gb of RAM So i could buy a 2gb of ram since my mate gave me 1gb so if i buy a 2gb ill have 3.5gb. Lol confusing :).

If I was you I would probably get a decent Motherboard and CPU bundle and wait for DX11 and get one of them cards, or the current card might drop in price for DX11.

But if you want a GPU and Ram now, you’ll need a new PSU. So:

The PSU is overkill but you shouldn’t have to upgrade it for ages, and it’s modular.
OR a bundle as I mentioned

I know there both a bit over it there good specs, ya!

Ive got a 4830 :D great card till i can afford a new i7 system ;)

ive got one of those brand psu's lying in my warddrobe too, definitely wasnt good enough so i upgraded to a 600w cheapo one just to run it. Mummy dear will be using this pc as her own when ive got my own build so if it breaks ill prob just buy her a new psu for another 30 quid considering all she does is browse for cars on t'interweb

EDIT:
Make sure youve got enough room in your case (ie. drive bay and side panel clearance), because its a real big card

Mate,

I've got an old rounded IDE cable you can have. (call it a bday present) i'm fed up with moving it from 1 draw to another and it getting in my way. email me your address and i'm stick it in the post tomorrow. (its red, however looks more pink) but it'll make your case look nicer inside.

Welcome to the world of modding and happy birthday.

looking back at your case photo it looks like a 4830 would be really close up next to your pci card, and might not be able to get past the end of your ram sticks.

i might be wrong but if it fits it looks like its going to be tight
