Are the two side buttons customizeable? We have a similar mouse setup at work and it's annoying when your surfing the net and you accidently click it and it takes you back :p

The side buttons are fully customisable - you can assign just about anything you want to them through the Intellimouse software.

Whatever anyone may say about Microsoft, I have never been able to fault their mice and keyboards - I have the original Intellimouse Explorer - it is now about 6 years old, and has never given me a moment of trouble other than sticking its "feet" back on about 3 years ago.

The only problem with this is that I have been unable to justify replacing it with the new version to the Domestic Authorities!
 
I havent got that mouse, ive got the MX510 and if i havent set the buttons up, it takes me back a page aswell but i set mine up how i like so yeh there fully customisable.
 
I've still got a Microsoft Intellimouse v3.0 (well two actually) from the original lot and I use it every so often just to remind me how good it is and as Nicos Rex says the buttons are customisable although you will need to install the Intellipoint software I think to do so.

Keyboards are personal choice to a degree but again I've never had any problems with Microsoft keyboards, I've used quite a few from them and other manufacturers and the action on a Microsoft keyboard just feels 'right' to me. I've used other good keyboards but with no other manufacturer have I ever always thought, "you know what, this keyboard is spot on". :)
 
keyboard wise have a look at the cherry's always found them to be solid and durable.

mouse wise if u're a gamer maybe worth investing in a decent, but pricy one likes of the logitech g5 etc.
