Just got my Quad Core Phenom 9500+
I have an Asus M2N-E SLI
I flashed the bios to 1108 the latest version
Re-booted into windows to check all was ok

Took out my old chip Athlon 64 3500+
Placed the new chip in
Power up
No beeps no mobo splash screen no nothing

Tried a few times

Took the new chip out put the new old back in
Straight to windows.

I'm guessing this is a dead chip, unless anyone knows of some special case where it doesn't work with the mobo i have???

The only thing I can think of, from having a quick look through the google for any problems is that that PSU simply can't supply the required power to the phenom, it is a large step up from an xp 3500.

the x power seems to be a cheap and cheerful PSU, i'd put money on that being the problem

Might be worth Clearing CMOS and attempting to boot with 1 stick of RAM in case the chip isn't liking your existing BIOS settings and Memory Config. Otherwise, it could potentially be the PSU as mentioned above.

Its 450W! should be plenty enough. What size PSU would you expect it to need for it to run

nooo :( watts don't mean anything im afraid mate .. it's all about how many amps they can support and build quality and fault tolerances etc.

The PSU you have is a single rail PSU putting out at optimal
# 3.3V/ 26A
# +5V/ 35A
# +12V/ 15A
# -12V/ 0.8A
# -5V/ 0.5A
# +5Vsb, 2.0A

I'd hazard a guess that the PSU can't deliver the juice myself, a decent quality PSU like a Corsair HX620 or an Enermax etc would work, it;'s a gues mind but my best guess personally.

Hi,

Just checked the Asus Website, on the CPU support list it does not show the Phenom.

Rob

Ahhhh :) that might be it then rather than the PSU

Regards the M2N-E

Dear Sir/Madam

Unfortunately testing is still being performed. At this time there is not an ETA on a possible future update.

what are Asus playing at :(

Here be evidence that Asus say Phenom works on the M2N-E SLI

That press release was early September, the quote from Asus themselves above appears to have been from end of November

my bad! i have indeed got 1102.

the link to the compatible boards is a strange one. Ive seen the same list on other websites with my board on it.

If you go to Asus website it list the M2N, the M2N-E, the M2N SLI but not mine. hmmmmm

Im going to try taking a graphics card and some other stuff out, see if i can get more power to the CPU

Yeah good idea trying to ther the video cards out of there. Since you are running two of them and a Quad core at a 15A 12v lane that should be causing the problem. I would also try getting my mobo and CPU +RAM to a friend to see if it's working with his own PSU aswell, that will pin down the problem easier imo.
