My Photographs

254 & 259 are my picks, I like them a lot.

As a token criticism I'd have to something about the CA in 258. I'm usually not picky about things like that but for me it crosses the boundary of distraction.

Hah yeah, I forgot to remove it. Not that happy with that shot anyway tbh. I just missed the critical moment when the deer were directly in the sunlight, but that tends to happen when you have the camera in one hand and a crazy dachshund in the other trying to get to the deer!

Shot from car when I was sat in traffic earlier. No real compositon but I kinda liked the light inside the bus and the different faces onboard.

I always like these sort of photos, with a miserable weather aspect at night, with wet miserable looking people in the light. It reminds me of the old pre war films, although the processing is that washed look I'm not keen on as it seems to steal away too much detail. I have to admit, I'd be tempted to clone out all the text & adverts on the bus as that seems to remove the seriousness of the image for me.

Yeah, I would have preferred if it didn't have any adverts or maybe one that was more edgy but I tend spend most of my time in LR rather than PS so don't clone things out very often. I have a couple of black and white presets that I use, this one filled in the adverts quite a lot, which is why, I think it did ok in this shot even thought its quite a cliché processing style at the moment.

Is that glass reflection at the top right of 259? Really my only nitpick!

Yes it is, they were everywhere up there but I kinda of like it, maybe if it was a bit lower it would look like the guy was looking out of the window, almost like a double exposure.

Such bad weather all the time since I got the D7000, managed to get a walk in when the sun was out in golden hour last weekend, that's where most of the photos so far have come from. Have to say, the 35mm 1.8 G is an awesome lens for the money, even though mine has massive back focus!

Mp4, I'm not using VSCO :)

Feel free to use any for phone wallpapers etc, the sizes on flickr will be plenty big enough. I use the 2nd one down on my iPhone 5S, the slide to unlock fit inside a paving stone.

Out of interest, got any unprocessed versions of the same shots? I see more comments about your processing than your composition etc. I wanna see what you can do straight from the camera :P

That's one big thing I want to work on, trying to get more interesting compositions. I've been trying to add depth lately with OOF objects before and after the focal point.

Here's 260 unprocessed. I cropped into centre the focal point and then played with curves a bit & HSL to add a bit of colour, finally I used the radial filter to draw focus to the seeds.

Thanks James, I just enjoy the processing, seeing what I can get from an image. However, my big inspirations are some people I follow on flickr/tumblr that live in way more exciting places than the Midlands so I guess I have to try and match their images as best I can.

I do enjoy the people I follow who can make pretty ordinary objects look awesome, I'm not sure that counts as a particular genre of photography though :)

Check these guys out - http://www.flickr.com/photos/julianbialowas and http://www.flickr.com/photos/zanthia/ are a couple that I really like.

So FX happened...oops! I wasn't planning on going full frame again so soon but it has been bugging me, so when I saw a D700 in great condition for a great price I couldn't resist.

One of the first shots taken on the drive home, still using the 35mm 1.8 DX lens until I can decide which 50mm to get. It's pretty good really, theres a bit of a vignette but I can work around that for now.

Well, there will be even more bokeh wh*ring than normal I would guess!

Isn't it supposed to be priced similar to the Canon L though, Raymond?

You have some great shots 42zx, did you follow any LR guides or just self taught?

Like a lot of people I started with presets (like VSCO) and and manually copied the changes they made to the original raw file to understand what they did, which is mostly tonecurve and HSL adjustments. I then made my own presets but I do still use some pre-defined ones as they give me the look I want straight away.

I tend do a lot of stuff with the adjustment brush, graduated filter and now radial filter, usuall to even out the exposure or draw focus to a particular part of a picture.

I think I'll stick with a Nikon 50mm for now, I consider their 50 lineup one of their benefits, price wise, in comparison to Canons.

The weather is not making shooting with a new camera easy, hence cake.

I liked the nikon 1.8g, even though it had a rather "clinical" appearance to the photographs with average bokeh. The 1.4g was terrible though. Probably the worst lens I've ever owned.

Yeah, I think the 50mm 1.8 G is clearly the best for the money. My final Nikon FX lens setup will probably consist of a wide prime either 14mm, 20mm 2.8 or 28mm 1.8 along with a Sigma 35mm and a 50mm 1.8 G.

It wasn't raining tonight I decided to go out and try star shooting. Unfortunately it was the worst time of the month for it, full moon. Although I can tell that when I get the a decent wide angle this camera will be a monster for night shooting, such clean high ISO and nice colours!
