My Political Position

Telegraph = Very right, well written
Daily Mail = Very right, for idiots
The Express = Diana is still dead
The Independent = All over the place
The Times = A bit right
Guardian = Very left, not always well thought out
The Mirror = Rubbish
The Sun = Rubbish + boobs
The Star = Rubbish + many boobs
The Sport = Boobs + Boobs

You could always try something like the Political Compass to get a very rough idea of where your personal politics lie - there's a certain amount of debate about how good this one is but it's illustrative enough to give you more of a clue and all the ones I've tried have flaws of one description or another.

Reading a few for balance is better than just reading one but generally speaking I quite like the style of The Times although my politics are comparatively left leaning. Then again if I'm bored and a paper happens to be near I'll read most or at least attempt to.

That came out as me being centre-left and but also just in the top half. I have then looked at where the UK parties lie and it has Labour and the Tory's being centre-right.

Like I say correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought that Labour were more centre-left and BNP were more far right? It dosen't look that way on the Political Compass. Obviously I'm not going exactly by this but I've used this to give me an example.

The general opinion seems to be that The Guardian is a well written newspaper, so I think I try that one first.

Labour were traditionally centre-left or even just plain left depending on the exact incarnation of them but the current Labour Government has gone a lot further right than would normally be expected perhaps. The BNP are more right wing socially but left wing economically (at least on some issues).

I did say it wasn't perfect but if it comes out as centre-left for you then The Guardian is certainly no bad place to start.

While we're on the subject of newspapers, is there a newspaper people feel to be right wing and liberal, or libertarian, or right wing but not reactionary?

I find if you buy the daily mail, and read it as if it was written entirely sarcastically - it's actually quite entertaining and factual :p

That comment is also the basis of a joke I'm thinking of using, is it funny??

why buy a news paper?

you can get all the news you require and more for free, online.

The day of the newspaper and mainstream media controlling information is over.

Yep. But sadly Russell Howard just about killed all newspaper jokes in one rather brilliant short piece, which I think might have been inspired by Yes, Minister... If I heard someone talk about that I'd immediatey remind me of the Russell Howard bit.

Ahh **** him, I'm sure someone has done all the knob jokes, doesn't stop people trying :p
