My Polo Project

A have a little pair of pliers that can "dislocate" on their hinge so that they can open reeeally wide. I used to think they were a stupid idea, but they're awesome at getting those hose clips off!

Thanks for the suggestion - i think i might have a pair of those - just getting in to do it.

Just rang the local Motor Factors and get these prices (seem quite reasonable to me, except the oil maybe!):

* 15w-40 5ltr - £17.99
* Oil filter - £1.99
* Air filter - £4.99
* Fuel Filter - £1.99

Not bad I thought. They don't have the Fuel or Air filter in but they said they would order it and it would be with them within the hour!! I expect this it normal in the motor industry? Off to collect at lunch.

Save yourself some hastle with oil national are doing oil and filter changes for £20 ! booked my girlfriends car in the other week and amazingly it still runs ! :D

I know what you mean, the Golf thread hammered my monthly bandwidth allowance.

Looks like you're organised, keep going :)

The filter prices are good, the oil is a little expensive for standard 15w40 oil, good starting point anyway. May have already been mentioned in this thread, but GSF and Eurocar Parts are a good source of parts for vw's.

Yeah thanks for that. I've just become a member of the Club Polo forum members for fiver. I get discounts at GSF so ill give them a go for anything more expensive. I was just too keen to get my hands on the bits! Plus my membership card hasn't come through yet.

Small update today: Got the car on the ramps (leg is still sore so no mechanical progress).

And here is an engine bay shot of the 1043cc beast for you all to drool over!

I had a Mk2 Golf with that engine, you can still make 'em go with a bit of commitment as L1J will testify ;)

Not sure if you had found your oil leak, or whether its something else. But if you mean the bits leaking around the head that looks like rocker cover gasket and distributor oil seal. Not seen oil coming out of the rocker cover bolts before, guess you need new rubber bits for those too.
