so, it's not very well, my little laptop. With both cores at 100%, it won't charge and gets roasting hot. Took it into Apple and they put £700 of new parts in it - still the same problem. So now it's got to go back in tomorrow. This is the third mechanical breakdown in my first year of having it - I'm sure I've seen somewhere that this means I should get a new one?

Anyone with Macbook Pros, could you do me a favour? Drain your battery down to under 90%, plug it in to charge, bust open 2 terminal tabs and run the following command:

yes > /dev/null

(you can kill the process by closing the tab it uses, or hitting ctrl-c, or whatever). If your charge isn't affected, could you let me know please? If it is, take your laptop to Apple as it's poorly.

does it still charge even though both/all your cores are now at 100% (check in Activity Monitor)

at least that makes steps towards something definitely being wrong with mine - thanks for doing that. Got another appointment with a genius tomorrow morning. To be honest, I'm just getting sick of it - I've been without a laptop properly for weeks now and I've got a crapload of work to do :/

that's what I thought - they had it for quite a long time and a lot of the repairs were staggered - the most expensive one involved changing the processor over. Hopefully this weekend they'll just resolve to not knowing what's wrong with it and give me a new one.
