Hi all, new here and wanted to show ya guys what the 360 controller looks like with a PS3 D-pad installed since it was mentioned earlier, it can also be done on the PS360 since it's the same shell and all..

..and a PS360 with the PS3 face buttons, the Guide button is just painted black..

These things really are a good bit of work to make up (I typically take a week to do one bit by bit because sitting down and doing one from start to finish will drive ya bonkers) and since there are (so far) 10 versions of PS3 controller[/URL] and 4 of the 360 ones that any combination of could be used I doubt anyone will ever do up a really detailed tutorial on making one of these things in this manner. I've been building them off and on for over a year now and every time I ever thought about making up a tutorial I'd open a PS3 controller and there was a new version I had to figure out all over again, so it quickly ended up being something that would never end and have to be redone when a new version showed up, and even if someone did make up a good tutorial you'd have to make sure ya used the same controllers they did as quite a few of them differ from each other, and some do in major ways. Any version of the PS3 controllers can be used really, and the DS3 (DualShock 3) ones don't make it any more difficult because of the Rumble motors, the 360 shell already has the spots to hold them and if it's built in this fashion they solder right back up to the board with the same wires as before.

Here are a couple pics of the insides of some I've built. The first one here uses a Wireless Matrix version 360 board while in the second it's a Wired CL version, both use DS3 controllers.

Hey RDC nice job on the controllers.

Were you able to find a way to keep the 360 joysticks on the board or did you put the ps3 joy sticks on the 360 board? If you did put the PS3 sticks on the 360 board then how did you make it fit with the 4 pot version? (I am also using the wireless matrix and a DS3)

Thanks

Thats ******* sweet!

Is there any websites up and running where you can now buy the above? :)

With all the different ways it can be setup that would make for an interesting site, provided they offered it customizable instead of just making it one way, which would kinda bite for several reasons.

I've had people want the Triggers and Bumpers swapped (internally) because some PS3 games have the Right Trigger on R1, so that translates to RB on the 360 controller, so ya can imagine trying to play an FPS using RB as the Trigger, not really the best way to go about especially if you're used to the 360 layout and want the Trigger to do the firing, so I've had that request made. The PS3 buttons are an option and some prefer the 360 ones to be left installed as the PS3 ones are more flat because of how the PS3 controller shell is, then the sticks, LEDs, D-pad miniUSB connector. I use the PnC connector instead of the miniUSB, the PnC cable does not have to be modified in any way to work for Syncing and Charging the PS360, you just have to rewire it internally is all because the PnC cable is nothing more than a glorified USB cable with a 3.3v charging circuit built into it, so any PnC cable that ya are using on a 360 controller ya can just plug right up into the PS360 the way I make it.

There are no sites that I'm aware of that sell them, and I personally don't have one, even if I did my interpretation of the rules here are that I couldn't even hint about it let alone link to it. Is it safe to post ya can Google for info on the PS360 controller and find someone that makes them? Apologies to Mods if even this isn't allowed and please edit as necessary, I've read thru the forum rules and I know I can't tell people how to contact me about it, but I'd like to let them know there is at least some hope for anyone interested in having something like this made up, that can afford it that is, because the price tag does reflect the difficulty and time of making it.

Thanks, much appreciated.

I probably could keep the 360 sticks in place, but I've yet to give that an actual try and see how well it flies, maybe on the next one I will as I've traced that whole mess out on the PS3 controller and know how it works. The '4 leg POTs' in the newer versions of PS3 controllers are Hall Effect sensors, and on the board for each one is an Op-Amp that converts the current changes into voltage, so as far as the MCU on the PS3 controller is concerned it's still just a POT being used as a voltage divider like the older controllers were and how the 360 ones are, but it's really a Hall Sensor changing the current run thru an Op-Amp that that changes it to voltage, so it's right overkill on the part of Sony to go all the way around the world like that to see what's behind them, but so is making a board revision every time the wind changes, which they do also.

I use the PS3 sticks, and as far as installing them goes, the 4 mounts just barely fit in the original holes and you'll want to put a spacer under each stick (~1mm) which may sound trivial but it'll save ya a big headache later down the road that will crop up, but what ya need to do is just bend the leads on the PS3 sticks up, then wire them up accordingly, there's no need to have those leads mounted to the board at all as the 4 main 'lugs' will hold it in place after they're soldered in. Make sure ya don't pinch any of the wiring when putting the shell back together as the sticks are mostly 'surrounded' by some of the inside of the shell.

Kinda hard to make out in this pic, but the leads on the PS3 sticks are bent up and then wired up, then the wires run thru the original holes of the 360 stick' POTs to the PS3 board.

Thanks for the detailed reply.

Which connections on the PnC connector on the 360 board are the standard usb for 5V, Ground, D+ and D-?

Thanks

Looking at the front of the controller (or the bottom of the board like in the earlier pics) the 7 pins go..

5v, D-, D+, next 3 are for charging the PnC pack, and the last one is Ground

The best thing ya can do here is just desolder the PnC connector from the board, then pull those 3 charging pins out of it and reinstall it. This guarantees that the charging circuit in the PnC cable isn't going to cause any issues at all in the controller in case a wire gets pinched on any of those lines or some solder splash causes a short where it shouldn't be. If ya make sure to stay away from those 3 traces ya don't have to worry about it anyway, but pulling the connector, removing those 3 pins and reinstalling it is a bulletproof guarantee it can't happen.

I post as RDC over at the xbox-scene as well as Ben Heckendorn forums, and you can contact me on either of those sites via PMs.

If nothing else just Google up "RDC and PS360", you should find someplace sooner or later to get in contact with me about making one up. ;)

Thats a pretty ace idea you had there and well pulled off.

Personnally i find both PS and Xbox controllers to be exactly the same, neither hold any advantage over the other. It not like when i go to my brothers house and play Fifa on a different console i can't handle it or get cramp or anything.

I'm in the same boat as this, I have no issues switching between the two types and don't get hand cramps from either.

But hats off to the OP, amazing mod, well done mate.

I wouldn't mind having a go at this.

Don't have any issues with either pad, but it looks like a good project :)
