My Ps3's Died

i've had three refurb units from Sony, one on warranty, one I paid for and the third I got for free as I complained bitterly about how poor it is that PS3 blu ray drives die, three broken consoles within a year was simply not on IMO.

How about 11?

Yep, 11 refurbs from Sony, all failed on me (often on day of delivery), all Fats. Before I complained to every senior email address I could find and they send me a brand new slim.

Well that simply is taking the *** Must admit I was rather hard to get off the phone from Sony's PS3 helpline when the third one went pop with the blu ray drive - think I was at least over an hour complaining before I finally got through to some senior who then agreed to a replacement PHAT PS3. They told me it'd be another refurb FOC as they wanted another £90 to replace what I already had, however when I got my replacement PS3 it had a 80GB HD and a new DS3 controller...

Bonus, as my first PS3 that broke was the sixaxis 40GB model - anyhow yeah PS3's are not reliable at all..

You must be insanely unlucky, or you must have really pee'd of some one who works in Sony's service center.

I just think that :

a) the Fats have heat issues
b) their refurbs aren't very good.

Like I say at least 3 failed on the day they were delivered to me. Of the others they all suffered from teh Yellow light of death or failed Bluray laser.

The Slims seem ok to me, my eldest son has had one for 2 years, used a LOT and no problems and the Slim they gave me is nearing a year old and is fine.

Basically I'm NEVER buying a launch model console again. I'll wait for the slim and cool version.

Anyway : Thread Hijack! Sorry OP!.

Lol 11 is a disaster.

My last ps3 that died I only had for 6 months so took it back to gamestation and they gave me a new one. Current one I have has been going strong but I have a 320gb slim as well in the other room as well as a 360 so should be g2g lol.

Well as in the title, my launch day 60gb has finally bit the dust.

Killed not by a hardcore session of gratuitous gaming, but by troll hunter on bluray

I've currently followed the guides on youtube and have the old girl in pieces all cleaned up (just need to borrow a heat gun from work tomorrow) and I was wondering if anyone here has tried to revive any of their duff hardware?

If anyone has tried it how did you get on?

cheers

let me know how you get on,ive done all of that 3 times now,it only lasts a week tops, best get rid

You do know, you're in the Console section?

And you are completely and utterly 100% correct, 'gaming' on a console designed primarily for said purpose is obviously not 'real gaming' at all.

*** Personal attacks will not be tolerated ***

Lol'd.

My old 60gb launch ps3 died on me but was able to heat gun it back to life. It lasted another year and a half before it finally bit the dust completely last summer.

First the good news, I successfully bought a new slim 160gb from morrisons for a bargain £150. So I thought until I opened the box.... I have never seen nor handled a slim ps3, but my god the phat ps3 makes these look like ****.

Now for the bad; my phat ps3 lives! but the networking capabilities (both wired and wireless) are knackered. So I can't deactivate the old console thus meaning I've lost my downloads

Currently I'm formatting an external drive to fat32 in order to back up my save games and hopefully I'll be able to restore them.

Not happy in the slightest but there are worst things that could have happened. I could have given up on gaming entirely and bought a wii :p

My phat PS3 is still going, I hope.
> Touches wood...

Whats this heatgun trick? How exactly does it revive your console?

I think I might move back to pure pc gaming if I can't get this bloody thing to load off my 320gb drive.

Why didn't I just spend the extra £50 for the 320gb slim

This has often worried me regarding not being able to deactivate the old console.
I have a fair amount of games I have bought off the Playstation Network and would be pretty well ticked off if I lost them but that being said surely a phone call to Sony asking them to deactivate the console could fix this.

What is the score regarding this issue, anyone know?

You have to phone the careline. They'll do it, but they make you feel like a criminal, they could see that I'd had 11 failed units in the narrative of the ticket but they still gave me a hard time, and told me that they wouldn't promise to do it again. Took about 4 days in all.

I had a 120gb slim go dead on me just went 'peow' and nothing out of it at all. I have a 320gb now which i love.

bit of a thread hijack i'm in the middle of doing mine. how important is cleaning the chips with isopropanol (not sure on the spelling of that)? as i don't have any only new thermal paste. ive done my best at cleaning them with a clean cloth and they look clean but could have oils from my skin etc on them.
i only want it to last long enough to backup get my disc out and deactivate before i buy a new one.

No worries wizzard, if your only planning on running it long enough to back up just clean it as best you can. I would have thought it would be alright.

Good luck.
