Well I was enjoying it too, it really was rapid! Had it for three days. Then tonight when downloading hl2 lost coast through steam, it just gave me blue screen of death and reset. Then when I re-started I spent almost an hour in checkdisk whilst it tried to repair EVERY file on there that had been "orphaned" apparently. It eventually went on to windows but it just dies after a minute of trying to open whatever file you are trying to access (the web, game etc) So I've had to go back to a single drive and re-format etc.
Is it likely to be a dodgy HDD, or just that my Setup doesn't like RAID? My idea was re-install windows on both and have one installed at a time and just install games, surf the net etc. and see if anything happens. Is this a good idea?

Start with the Maxtor diagnostics from their site (link in the sticky). You'll have to set the BIOS to single drive mode probably to allow the diags to see the disks.

If that comes up clean you've got 2 options - go back to RAID0 and see what happens or revert to 2 single drives. If you go with RAID0 again then make sure you have the latest version of all the drivers, BIOSes etc. Get Windows installed and then just stress test it for a while - SiSoft Sandra has some pretty intense HDD benchmarks.

It might also be worth keeping an eye on your board temps in case the southbridge is getting a little warm although the southbridge usually runs very cool because it doesn't have a lot to do.

TBH i think its ** system that is unstable, never heard of a bsod casued by hdd's, is your system prime95 stable?
Whats psu are you using?
Also how are temps?

Saved Maxtor's own diagnostic program to floppy and used that. It took about 4 minutes to tell me One of the HDD's is S***ed  Gotta love maxtor huh! Which is faster, RMA'ing it straight to maxtor or to the place I got it?!

Check your warranty information on the Seagate website. You may find your drive is classified as OEM. The system will show you that you have to take it back to your retailer.

Just a heads up, blue screens happen all the time due to hard drives, ever seen "invalid page file fault"?

faulty HDD probably.

Really?

Havent had a single bsod since i built this pc, while this pc has 5 hdd's ( of wich 2 in raid 0, and also 1 maxtor), pc is on about 18 hours a day on avrage, so whats up with you saying bsod's happen all the time due to hard drives?

To the OP:

Ahwell hope you get a seagate in return of the maxtor, doubt it personally tho if you go to your shop where you got it from...
Yet another thread with dead maxtor, im really fearing for my diamondmax10 plus 300gb

But I'd want both drives the same as It's for a RAID 0, sending me a seagate back is all well and good but then I'd have a mis-match of drives?

You can run RAID0 on different drives, it's just not as efficient as the faster drive is forced to wait for the slower one before the controller will send the next request.
