After two years of faithful service my Zalman Reserator has died (we had a powercut, looks like the surge protector didnt save it) and my comp ran fine for a whole day before I realised the crashes and random turn-offs were due to the CPU overheating (mobo manager just said 0 degrees C and i ignored it) oops!

I absolutely loved it, was silent, looked funky (everyone was like wtf when they came to my house) but 'all good things...'

Its the little pump that has actually broken, i noticed it making some odd noises before but its completely busted now. Anyone got any advice what I should do?

My options:
1) Use the broken reserator as a kind of reservoir and just get some sort of new pump and, like, put that into the system somehow.
2) Go back to a fan.

Tbh, I don't really want to pay too much out, i should be upgrading in the next six months or so anyway. Noise is my main concern, this PC isnt worth overclocking any more since it's mainly used for my work now - I wouldnt mind using a fan if it was quiet enough, but i've been out of the loop for a while so i thought i'd seek advice :>

Reserator RIP :(

Ah, edit: my cpu is socket 939 :>

Alternatively, you could visit a certain company whose name I can't print (being a indirect competitor to overclockers) who happen to sell replacement Zalman Reserator1 pumps. I was a bit concerned to see that actually, suggesting the life of these pumps isn't too good (mines still appears to be going strong after 18 months of 24/7 usage).

I too am dreading the day mine fails - I'm concerned about the Athlon 2600+ ability to not throttle itself when it overheats, and what might happen if it does overheat in a big way for several hours (days) before I notice?

Maybe Overclockers could look at supplying these pumps themselves? In the meantime, a crossword clue to finding the seller is "www.'rather low-noise computers' .co.uk ;)
