my scirocco 1.8 turbo (updated 17th nov)

hi all,

iv been away form the forums for a while now, still come on to browse but i havent posted much for a while.

if anyone is on club gti then you may have seen this.

but, here is my scirocco undergoing yet another engine change.

this was the first day. (a week or so ago)

i got a few things done (i only had a few hours)

first thing was to swap the clocks for mk3 gti clocks

the fit still needs slight work, but i think it looks quite good.

then i got to work stripping out the 6a 2.0 16v.

this didnt take too long as i have done it a million and one times now. well it feels that way.

next i used some gunk to clean up the bay. its still not the cleanest but a massive improvement from how it was

that was as far as i got realy, bar fitting powerflex stearing rack bushes and almost getting the mk4 shifter in.

QpEng downpipe for a scirocco/mk1 golf 20v turbo conversion with the ko3/ko3s turbo

Sundays progress to follow.

my scirocco 1.8 turbo (updated 17th nov)

Sunday

i actually got the engine and box in, i have fitted 100mm flanges to the gearbox (so the standard rocco shafts will mate up), but im having trouble getting the drive shafts to fit. it looks as though the shafts are just too long to fit, but it looks like they would sit in the cup if i could get them past the edges, if that at all makes sence.

i have a problem with the brake mc/servo, one of the pipes that comes off the bottom of the mc is right in the way of the counterweight on the gear selector, so im going to have to change the mc/servo sooner rather than later, as i was planning. (i might use a mk2 16v one i have instead of the mk4 one like i was going to.

the rear gearbox mount i bought from tracksport is utterly useless it is no where near fitting, but with the car on a ramp and the engine in place im sure i can sort something out.

i just need to get a gasket for the down pipe and the exhaust will be sorted. the QpEng down pipe is and awesome fit!

the only pic i took of the engine

and a test fit of the intercooler, perfect haha

Thanks for looking. Let me know what u think!

what 1.8t engine is that (the VAG 20v obviously), we currently have a 1.8t APY engine sat in the workshop that was meant for a now written-off s3 and iam mighty tempted to do something with it.

nice work. are the mounts pretty much the same for the two engines or have you had to get creative with them?

what controls the engine, can the stock management cope?

hi,

GeX, the mounts mostly depend on what gearbox you use, i have used the mk4 golf o2j box so i has to use custom mounts, although i have seen them available to buy in kits now. the engine has 1 mount on the cam belt side, this is similar to the standard mount but it has to me modded to fit. if a angine from a transverse (i think it is, engine sits front to back :)) ie the audi a4 i think the stock engine mount bolts straight on.

yea im using stock management, although its being de coded (the immobilisor being removed) and then when its running it will be remaped to around 230/240bhp i hope.

barry,

i bought the rims from a lad on CGTI/E38 he had built them/had them powder coated. they should look a lot better than my ats rims i have now, and should give it a nicer stance.

theres still a few things i need befor it will be running, number1 is my ecu back haha. i need to get some boost pipes sorted, i was gona use silicone bends and alloy straights but i think that will look a bit cheap so im gona try n get some stainless pipework made up.

also got G60 drilled brakes to go on, plus a few other bits n bobs.

cheers for looking, thanks for the comments.

Jason.

anyone know a good place to get some stainless boost pipes made up? around 60mm dia.

Cheers,

Jason.

i got the boost pipes fitted today, took me a day to find a place to make me a pipe so i could fit the map sensor :(

it now makes some good whooshy noises haha. just need to get a couple of brake pipes sorted and i can take it sor a spin round the block.
